Hello, I have an old avaya definity that the terminal went bad and I tried connecting with my laptop thru avaya site admin and could connect but could not get the login prompt to come up to log in. So I tried hyper terminal and could log in but could not get the function keys to work tried every setting I could change with no success. Any one have the settings that will work. I even downloaded hyper access to try it was the same as hyper terminal but the screen was worse. Thanks for any help

Did you set your ASA setting to "Direct Connect through serial port", then select the correct COM port?
Sometimes when you connect and you just see the blue screen, wait a few seconds then press the "Enter" button two times and the login prompt may come up.
You can also try lowering the baud rate and play with the port settings.

Hi Yes I made sure I am on direct connect and that the com port is the correct one and the baud rate. On hyper terminal I even tried the auto detect and it connects as vt100j @ 9600-8-n-1. it lets me log in but I can not get the function keys to work. I can type a command but it will not let me execute them. my options were for them to act as terminal keys or windows keys. I tried both and still no good. On avaya site admin it says I have connected but it does not respond to pressing the enter key or any typing.

Sounds like you may need to set your default emulator. Try setting it to 4410.

TuTTY works well too and it has ATT513 emulation

If you can find a download of Avaya's terminal emulator, it works great. Has a 4410 emulation.

Clowns to the left of me, jokers to the right, here I am, stuck in the middle with you.

Thank You AvayaTier3, the Esc codes worked sometimes it took a few tries to get it to take but managed to get in change the time, verified the 911 calls are supposed to alert the console.

new problem
They do not have a console they are using 2 8434Dx phones as their front desk phones. I went thru the programing for the phones and could not find a way to program the alert key on them. They do not remember ever having a console. Is there a way to program the 911 to alert the front desk phones instead to the console? Or do I need to try to find a console and hook it up somehow. Thanks

You can add a button called Crisis Alert. I think the button is programmed as crss-alrt and it will work on the 8434 phone. When someone dials 911, the phone with that button will beep and flash and display the phone extension and name of the person who dialed 911. You need to press the Crisis Alert button 3 times to clear the alarm.

I tried adding it but it said it was not a valid option. i used help command and went thru every button option but did not see anything it is an old system. Was hoping I was just missing something or that there is another area that I need to program to get the button to be available.

SA8608 - Increase Crisis Alert Buttons S8700 only
Currently, CM is limited to 10 Crisis Alert stations on the S8700 platform.
(This is in addition to the 28 Attendant Console capacity), each of whom may
have a Crisis Alert button. This enhancement will expand the capabilities of the
S8700 platform to allow for up to 250 total Crisis Alert stations.
