Hi,

I have a big problem with my new phones (9620L), they will not work. Its keeps on discovering. It seems that it will not register. I have S8300/G700 with software R013x.01.2.632.1. Is there any issues with this?

My 9650 were fine. It works perfectly.

Please help me out.

Thanks a lot.

I am not sure if you do but you need phone firmware 3.0 to get the 9620L working.

How to know the firmware of the phone that were fresh from the box?

Thanks a lot.

you should setup your environment properly. Setup an HTTP/HTTPS server (this can be done using the "\tftpboot" directory on your S-Series server), setup your DHCP Option 242 to point to it, setup a "46xxsettings.txt" file in the "/tftpboot" directory, and upgrade the firmware on the phones to the current release, which is R3.1 (which has VPN support built in).

It doesn't matter what firmware comes on the phones, you need to take control, and get your environment setup, and YOU will then be in control of the firmware load on the phones, and what options are setup in the phones.

This is the AVAYA documentation (1st link), and download support page (2nd link) for 9600 R3.1 H.323 firmware:

I suggest you read the 9600 administrators guide first, you will then have an idea of what is required to set it up.

If you take the phones up to firmware 3.1, remember to also take the 46xxsettings file up to the November 2009 version.

Thanks for the replies. I really appreciate it.

How come that my new 9620's will not work and 9650 will work on my CM? What seems to be the problem. What are needed to do.

Thanks,

The 9620L is a newer version phone.
The 9650 has two versions now with a C (color) and the other one is a gigabit version.
But the old ones just work.
Your 9620L is a Light version which does not have a gigabit port and has no usb in it.
Also the Light stands for POE class 1 instead of 2.

The newer version phones need 3.0 or higher to work.

phoneaddict read the admin guides. Once you do you will see that your load of CM doesn't work with the 9600 FW3.X loads. Downgraded the firmware on the phones to 2.0 or 1.55 and they will work or upgrade CM to 3.1.5.

THanks guys. Can I used S8300 as HTTP server as well for my 9600? Would it still be put in the tftpboot directory?

Yes, the /tftpboot directory is used for HTTP/HTTPS as well as TFTP server from the S8300...

Great! Thanks. So I that means, inorder for me to downgrade FW of my phone, I need to put the files in tftpboot right? What particular files? What command to unzip a file in tftpboot?

download the 9600 R2.0 firmware from support.avaya.com, goog "WinSCP", download and install it, it will let you copy from your PC to the S8300's /tftpboot directory directly, it's like a windows explorer interface with your PC folder on the left, and the linux folder on the right..

Thanks mitch.. I have RPM file and the zip file. Are these two needed or just the zip file?

Thanks so much.

if you go to the maint. web page, click on "download", then open the RPM file (if you have the CM 3.1 or greater version), then on the bottom of the page check "install this file", the system will unpack the RPM and install the files for you in the /tftpboot directory. You will still need to copy and setup a "46xxsettings.txt" file to the /tftpboot directory as well.

Or, you could unzip the file on your PC, and use "WinSCP" as I suggested above, and copy the files from your PC (where you unzipped them to), and then copy them to the /tftpboot directory manually.

Either way, you also need to download and modify a "46xxsettings.txt" file setup for your site to the /tftpboot directory.
