I'm not sure if this issue is related to My BCM configuration, but

I have 2 66-blocks, and each one has 32 slots (16 on each side of the blocks) one block is filled, but the other block, i have one side with 16 blocks used, and the other side has 8 blocks used.

Does anyone know where or how to enable the remaining 8 blocks in my BCM so I can use them? i see wires connected on the remaining 8 blocks

(349kb)

What does the block connect to (what type of module)? If it connects to an analog card, there are only 8 ports on that anyway.

You will probably have wires there because the cable comes as a 25 pair, and a good installer will punch them all down instead of cutting the extra wires. You can't use them if they are beyond the hardware limit. ie the analog card only uses 8, the rest are there just to look pretty.

actually, i'm not sure if my cards are analog.
i see 3-25pair cables connected into the BCM.

do you guys think i have a mixture?
because the 1st block has 32 ports, and the left side of the 2nd block has 16, and the right side of the 2nd block has 8.

What do the cards say on them? DSM32+, ASM 8, ASM 8+, GATM 8, CTM?

one of the cards says "4x16" which has one 25pair cable plugged in

the other one says "DSM 32+" which has two 25pair cables plugged in

16 digital station in the cable from 4x16

16 digital stations in each cable from DSM32+

I have 3 cables, 2 cards,
i have 32 digital stations on the first block.
and (16+8) 24 digital stations on the second block.
the remaining 8 stations on the block I cannot access.

But you're only equipped for 48 digital stations - 16 on the 4x16 card, and 32 on the DSM 32 - something isn't adding up here.

Have you tried punching down a phone to any one of the 8 remaining blocks? if they are connected to the 32+, then just punching down the phone should make them work.

Acewarlock,
yes, i've tried putting a phone on the blank spaces, but none have a signal. (at the same time I configured in the BCM with the port/ext numbers)

Are you sure the 25 pair cable comming from the 32+ is punched down to this 66 block?

You don't need to program a phone on the BCM as it will self program to the default for that phone type and it should work.

The pair must be punched down correctly as it is Polairty scentive.

I don't know how to tell if the 25+ is punched down into the block.

It looks like all the wires are connected. (the 25pair coming from behind the block connects to the block, one wire each)

I don't know much about these telephone BCMs. The system was in place when I got here and I started to punch wires in to make the phones work. until i reached the second half of the block, and they didn't work.

thanks

They won't work on the second half, i explained that before, the output is only for the first 16 pairs. The rest of the 66 block is punched down because you don't just cut off the other wires. Regardless of how many phones you try to punch down, regardless of the polarity, those others will not work, there is nothing on the BCM side connected to those.

so the solution is to add new cards in the BCM400?
Should I buy a 32+ card? or is there something better?

btw, this probably is an off subject, but I noticed the OS is running some version of Windows, can someone verify?

thanks!

32+ is the highest density card you can get for a BCM. Doesn't look like you're using the CO trunks in the 4x16, or the BRI module. You could replace either one of those with a 32+ if you need more ports. Otherwise you'll need to add an expansion cabinet for an additional card.

BCM runs Windows NT 4.0 Embedded. When BCM 4.0 comes out, it'll be running Nortel Corporate Linux, same as the BCM 50.

Have you looked at the programming? What does it say the Media Bay Modules are programmed as? Go under the resources heading and open Media Bay Modules, and also go to one of the phones on the second half of that block and see what port that it is and verify that it is set corectly. Something just doesn't seem to add up.
