I have searched and searched before I posted this thread and found something similar but the post was closed so please bear with me as I am fairly new to the ip phone. I have setup many within "intranets" but never out of the network. I guess my questions are:
1. Does the 5610SW IP require anything special (VPN connection) or will it create its own VPN connection. Basically can I plug this in to a remote office's switch and have it communicate with the ipoffice.
2. What ports need to be forwarded as the particular office has everything blocked expect the most needed ports.
3. When asked for TFTP server and File server is the local ip (192.168.1.xxx) or will it be the public ip (24.129.xxx.xxx).
4. If port forwarding is required does everything forward to the ip500 or the computer hosting manager.
5. At class I was given the IPoffice_46xx_vpn which I am not sure will work with the 5610. I also lost the password to unlock the file.

Thanks for your help

Followup, I got the FVS338 up and running. I am accessing the VPN tunnel just fine. I have tried to decipher tech bulletin 184 without much luck. Here is the config as I have it now.

Remote (home)
DHCP Server in the 192.168.1.10 to 192.168.1.100
Gateway address 192.168.1.1

Office
WAN 74.165.xxx.xxx
Gateway 192.168.1.9
IPO Box 192.168.1.4
Computer running manager 192.168.1.5

Here is the confusing part. When I setup the 5610 what is what?

It loads the 23252 bin file

I want to confirm that I have the settings:
Phone 192.168.1.15 (I inputed this)
CallSV 74.165.xxx.xxx I am assuming this is correct
CallSvPort 1719
Router 192.168.1.1 (home router address)
FileSv 192.168.1.5

It will not seem to even acknowledge the FVS on the other side

TheTaker is right

The phone sets up a vpn connection and then it is local so only use local adresses

But why set it up manualy, you configured dhcp !

Good point about the DHCP. I guess I just need to verify where I put the public ip address with the the 74.165.xx.xx

On the phone the router address should be the IP Office not your home router :)

I think I'm confusing myself again :) It's easily done...I've only ever done one VPN phone myself but it worked...don't know how :)

It could be right
The phone already did set up a vpn so you do not have to care about a router anymore

So the router should be the ipo

Don't worry, friday afternoons with a bottle of beer in one hand tend to go that way!

That's what I thought tlpeter, once the tunnel is established the phone is effectivley on the LAN and so the home router address would not be valid, but I have been wrong many a time so I'm not betting, it was a while ago I did it :)
