Hello all, I have a couple of 5550IP consoles (on a 3300, 8.0.10.7_1) that keep losing connection with the network. The customer has only just noticed it happening but on checking the maintenance logs it appears its been happening since day 1 of install. The logs generated are 'warning' logs which say: "The set is out of service due to loss of communication."
The customer has no DHCP server & all PC's are statically assigned ip addresses. The phones are also all assigned static ip addresses by entering the relevant info when the phone boots up. DHCP is enabled on the 3300 but there isn't an ip address range, it was only switched on so static ip addresses could be programmed for the consoles. Anyone got any ideas?

As usual all help is greatly appreciated!

Cheers

Check the switch for errors on the ports, and also check the power supply. We had a customer who was kicking the power supply loose, so it would sometimes reset the console.

How many network cards does the pc running the console have ?

********************************************************************************

Eighty percent of success is showing up

Each of the 2 PC's (one for each console, both having problems) have 1 NIC

How often are the consoles losing communication?

NO GOOD DEED GOES UNPUNISHED!

They've been installed for quite a few months but the issue has only just been noticed & reported, but on checking, this 'Loss of communication' log has been generated for ages! According to the user it was noticed a couple of times Friday & then the same again Monday.

Hello,
I've had the same problem with 3 consoles losing connection, up to 2-3 times a day.
After all other things had been checked, network setting and so on, we decided to upgrade from 8.0 UR3 to UR5.
Your version seems to be 8.0 UR4 (8.0.10.7_1) so I would suggest an upgrade to UR5.

In our situation it seems to help (It's been 4 weeks since the upgrade, and no problems anymore with lost connections)

if it's not software then it's network related.

are your handset curly cords ok. what happens if you wiggle the cables, do they disconnect.

tough one but a few things you can try

Is the 5550 console network connection jumpered off the console PC, or is it connected to it's own switch port? I had the same problem when my console was plugged into the console PC. If you have a spare port, plug the console in there instead. Just make sure the spare port is on the same VLAN as the phones.

gnr

I've had to use 2 lan ports in the past to stop consoles freezing too. Also, it's best practice to statically assign pc and keypad.
