54XX Series handset replacement hand pieces!!! 1

Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone out there knows if the handpiece on the 54XX series handsets is a part that can be ordered from Avaya?

Our distributor has said no but that would make it one of the only brands of phones I've worked with that don't have it as a replacement part!?

I see some other companies have em for sale retail overseas, but they don't ship to NZ.

Any info or tips would be great!

BTW I have destroyed one to find out how they go together, and there are 6 plastic lugs, 2 bottom, two middle, 2 top with interference type fit... that just don't come apart.
Even now after hacksawing it open!
have found the ear piece/speaker is dead. All 3 same fault.
Word to the wise, it won't be going back together!!!
If anyone wants a pic of the inside, let me know!

ha! rather than that hollow plastic feel it oughta have...
it's a reasonable chunk of metal too.
Guess big lump of metal is more cost effective than a more "heavy" duty speaker?!

Physical challenge time... can anyone get one of these things apart without breaking either top or bottom part.?!
FYI I did get one of the six lugs to come apart without breaking completely. the other five were gone...

yeah i did, undid the middle screw, then started with a small screwdriver at the cable connection and worked my way round.

Some don't have any screws at all, there are different types

yep, no screws on these puppies... just 6 very well fitting lugs internally, and the lip around the outside appears to do sweet fanny adams.
