In November last year, I purchased a Mitel 5312 phone from our supplier and only recently attempted to program it.

All went normally with entering the form 9 programming plus entering the IP addresses (fixed IP on set) etc on the phone itself, leading to usual firmware update on the phone. At this point, during the message TFTP: Main Downloading... the value gets up to 1514 then stops, then shows an error L2 DL error Resetting phone... at which point it resets and works its way through to starting the download again in an endless loop.

I got a second new 5312 from our supplier which does the same thing.

I programmed an old used but new to us 5212 on the same IP without issue.

I've searched and found this thread

referring to 5312's etc not being able to downgrade to pre 5 software however, ours being 5.0.1.11, this would not appear to apply. I've also brought this to the attention of our supplier.

Our supplier says that this phone should be compatible with our phone and firmware.

Any hints?

I've seen issues with phones that might have previously downloaded a TFTP load from a 3300 system

If these phones are used/refurbished, that could be your issue

Thanks for the suggestion. Both of these are new in box, all packaging and sealed.

Next bet is to upgrade your SW to the latest release 5.0.2.14

You're probably right.

I suppose we should get a price on that, however, very likely not worth it just to make a $200 phone set work when instead, I can just get a different, often used, model for about $50-$100 instead. We currently have about 5 different models of IP phones working without issue so the problem seems to be somewhat isolated.

Wishing for that magic bullet like "just change % to # in @ and you're good to go"
