Hello all ,

I have installed some 4610 IP Phones and the customer is complaining about the high volume of sidetone on the hand set .

I made some changes of values on the settings.txt but apart from muting the sidetone completely , had not any success . Is there a way to control the level of the side tone ?

Thanks in advance .

What version of the firmware are you running on the phone?

mastromitsos,

yes, you can control side tone level starting with ip phone firmware version 2.4.

Sidetone is basically being able to hear yourself talk. In an IP environment where Sidetone's are disabled many individuals using a headset will think they can't be heard because they don't hear themselves over the headset due to the ear pieces blocking the natural projection of the voice.
Sidetone basically allows a bit of your speech to be filtered through to the headset earpieces through the phone.

Below are the items that you would place in the settings file for the phone and an explanation of each setting.

In the 46xxsettings.txt you would place a lines such as this in there

set AUDIOSTHS 1
set AUDIOSTHD 1

AUDIOSTHS – controls the side tone for the handset. The range of values is 0 (default setting), 1 (6dB below nominal), and 2 (infinite loss or no side tone). Any other value will be ignored without changing the default value of Sidetone_Gain_Hs

AUDIOSTHD – controls the side tone for the headset. The range of values is 0 (default setting), 1 (6dB below nominal), and 2 (infinite loss or no sidetone). Any other value will be ignored without changing the default value of Sidetone_Gain_Hd.

Thank you all , but i would like to control the volume of the sidetone , not just switch on or off .
By changing settings the only i succeed was to turn the sidetone on-off ...

Have you tried it with a setting of 1? That should drop it down a bit from the default setting.
