We are having a problem with Avaya 4621SW phones not obtaining an IP address via DHCP from some router/switch models. The models we have seen this happen on are Linksys WCG200, Netgear CG814WG, and Trendnet TEW-633GR.

The phone does not obtain an IP address and sits with DHCP displayed on the screen with an ever incrementing counter. If we statically assign an IP address to the phone then it connects to the network and functions correctly. Having to statically assign IPs is not optimal, we would like to use DHCP.

DHCP is configured on the router/switch and other devices have no problem obtaining IP address, only the 4621SW phone seems to have a problem.

We are running IP Office v4.1(12) and the a20d01b2_8_3.bin firmware on our 4621SW phones.

Has anyone seen this problem with DHCP from a 4621SW phone before? Any suggestions for a for a fix (other than to assign a static IP address of course).

Thanks.

I see that these are home use Routers and this may be causing your problem as these phones will look for a good DHCP server to assign DHCP through option 176 with VLAN's.

If these are for remote workers why are you not using VOIP Phone manager Pro???

We use VPNRemote on 4621SW phones for people at home because they plug it in and for the most part it just works.

We have over 25 people using VPNRemote without a problem using home routers and only three people with the previously mentioned home routers having problems due to DHCP.

We don't use Phone Manager Pro for employee's at home because we had a lot of issues trying to use it on home PCs. Audio was often blocked by the various firewall/antivirus packages installed on the PCs and the setup was also complicated by audio card/headphone issues. It was hardly a plug and play solution, like the VPNRemote phones.
