Hello,

I am a product designer and novice-3DMAX user.
One task I am trying to accomplish is mapping a Movie or Animation onto Objects in the scene.
So far I havent managed to find this function in the
Rendering area.

Do you mean mapping as in placing a material on an object or adding some animation to a movie? I Em Not A God
I Em An Animator

If you were to model a TV -
You could model the TV as a simple editable mesh.
Then create a spotlight, pointing at it.
Then use an avi or whatever as a filter.

All this is done by the Create / Modify command panels - not in the Rendering menu.. Hmm.. I vaguely remember that Truespace had this in the rendering menu - perhaps you're an ex-Truespace user?

I would like to become a member in this forum with an intention to learn more on 3D,kindly advise how to go about it.

pkc,

by posting questions and (if possible) answering them, you are already a member. I like to use forums like this one for more specific questions but all questions are welcome. Anytime you get stuck, post your question in here. I believe that no matter what it is, there is someone out there who knows the answer to it. It might take a while, but the answer will come.

Also, any helpful tips are welcome. As you begin to learn 3d (or other graphics related software--3d artists use them all) and come across a helpful tip, post that as well. Not everyone has the same skill level and chances are we all have had the same problems, and we can help each other avoid the inevitable headaches these programs can give us. You'll understand what i mean when your keyframes get all screwy, or the IK system you spent hours building doesn't work right, etc...

Just get some practice and make a post every now and then when you're stuck.

I am also only a novice on 3D studio, but I've been a novice for a while.

I would make a material in the material editor that was made up of you animation, and then assigning the material to whatever object you wanted the animation to display on.
