I have the same problem, I bought the switch second hand over the summer and it's been working, except i can't manage it.
My laptop doesnt' have a serial port so i can't console into it.
I have a Cisco console cable, would that work as it has RJ-45 on one end and seriel on the other?
Hi - a cisco console cable will not work. It is wired up different from a normal null modem serial cable for starters. I have a usb - serial convertor. I will see if i can get this to work with the null modem cable i made up. Will reply soon.
Hi Beholder - I have managed to use a usb-serial convertor (costs around $15 - $20 - try ebay.com) successfully to connect. Once you have connected to the serial port (9600, n, 8, 1) it is fairly straightforward to set IP. see screen capture of session below. to reset back to factory default which doesnt reset the ip but resets password if one has been set try login 3comcso password RIP000 or login recover password recover. If these don't work. send a post
