3300 Online Upgrade

Hi,
If I do an online upgrade from 4.1 to 4.2 on a 3300 MXE can the upgraded software be activated without the software installer tool been connected. IE can I just browse in to the ESM and issue the swap command to activate the new software.

I think the swap command is only used after an upgrade has been completed and activated.
