Can anybody tell me what happens to licenses stored on a 3300 after you have upgraded the software? If i upgrade without visiting the AMC, do I lose all license information on the 3300?
Is it possible during an offline upgrade, to NOT visit the AMC?
Thanks.

only if a new password in not required (RN will inform on this) obviously you also have the option do 'download' the options sheet but this will fix the licenses to that controller and cannot be moved at a later date

Thanks, Bob.
I'm not sure if a new password is required as i cannot get hold of the release notes.
I'm upgrading an Lx on 7.1.4.9_1 to 9.0.3.29. When I try to get the release notes for 9.0.3.29 on Mitel Online, another login screen appears and my mitel online credentials do not appear to work. Do you know where I can get a copy of the 9.0.3.29 release notes?

Thanks.

yes, a new password is required. As a rule of thumb, if you are going between loads (7-8 etc) then new password is required. Only when an update to a load is apllied do you not need one (7.0 - 7.1 etc). Sorry dont have that specific RN

Hi Bob & John

there are a few things to be mindful of is if you have licenses added manually not via the AMC then they are locked to the controller and only MITEL can unlock them. previously they had to issue a new sysID with the licenses on them but they are now able to unlock but you have to go directly to MITEL.

Tell me what you need and I'll tell you how to get along without it.

You can update the controller no problem but you will not be able to access the licenses until you get your dealer to go to the AMSC center and update the tab for your application record from R7 to R9. This basically creates the new password. If your system has internet access then the software upgrade tool can contact the AMC and retrieve the licenses during its upgrade ( provided you get the the R7 to R9 thing done in the AMC ). Note get the release note for R9 and read them through as they have information you might need to be aware of when going from R7 to R9 i.e potential issues with NSU's etc and how to manually correct them. Hope all goes well.

Lou,

Thanks for your answer. i've obtained the release notes and am working through them, although I am told the Lx has no peripheral items attached and is used only for trunking (but I know it has quite a lot of IP User and Device licenses on it which is slightly puzzling).

I am considering a rollback position if things go wrong - however, i don't seem to be able to locate an online version of 7.1.4.9_1 (the current software). Any ideas?

Also, would there be any use in having a spare hard drive in case that gets damaged in some way during the upgrade process?

This is not required if you are upgrading online.
The only time you need to use the dropdown is if you are downloading the licences, as this generates a new password.

The only issue I can see here is if the software assurance is not active. If it has expired it will need to be renewed before upgrading.

older versions of software should be available on line. You just have to poke about a bit. Also any version of 7.0 would suffice.

You could get another hard drive and if you went to that trouble I would take out the current and use that. Then you fall back is to just re install the old drive. Note: newer releases started using double partitions so on upgrades you could roll back to the old software by booting of the alternate partition. Make sure this second drive is big enough and for that matter you might want to check the current. I believe as long as its 80 G it should be ok.

That said I don't think you should damage the drive during upgrade.

Why the LX has licenses? If its used for resiliency it would at least explain the presense of the device licenses. Anyway once again good luck.

Rollback is easy.
Take a backup and make sure you have a copy of 7.1.4.9_1 then if all fails you can re-install the software and restore from backup.
I have just checked and that software is still available to download from MOL.

Supernova, thanks.

Could you post the link to the 7.1.4.9_1? i'm having real trouble finding it.

Also, I'm told that the hard drive 50004750 for the lx controller is discontinued...can anybody recommend a suitable currently available Mitel hard drive for the Lx?

Also, am I being a bit paranoid to need a hard drive as a backup in case an upgrade from 7.1.4.9_1 to 9.0.3.29 goes wrong??
