Hello

We were given a Mitel 300 CXi chassis for nothing the other week, it wouldn't boot. VXWorks would start then tell me it couldn't load the boot file and kept on going round and round in Circles.

I'm following the manual on how to re-install the system software manually but it's getting stuck trying to load the upgrademain.out file from my FTP server.

So it boots
downloads Boot_Install from my FTP server
Starts partitioning then tries to download upgrademain.out

The problem is I can see the logs on the FTP server real time and it's not even trying to download this file!

I see it downloading Boot_Install just fine so I know my FTP config is good, it just doesn't seem to even try and find upgrademain.out!

Where / what could I be doing wrong?

Cheers.

What settings are you using in bootup?

You should stop the countdown and then change the boot parameters. What are you using?

Hi Mike

All the settings are as the manual states as in it downloads the initial file from my FTP server, it then fails to download the next one.

These are the instructions i'm following to the letter!

6. Stop the controller from booting by responding to the prompt:
- Press <SPACE><SPACE><SPACE> to stop auto-boot AFTER
countdown starts (3300 Release 5.2 and later)
- Press any key to stop auto-boot (prior to Release 5.2).
7. At [VXWorks Boot], type c, and press ENTER.
8. For each setting shown in bold (Table 7 below), type the table value,
then press ENTER. For all other settings, press ENTER to accept the
default value.
CAUTION: If you have a Universal NSU with a PRI database,
you may need to convert that database before you
begin the upgrade. Refer to “Converting a PRI Database on
a Universal NSU” on page 145 and the RN for conditions.
Tip: The VXWorks parameters are case-sensitive.
Table 7: VxWorks Settings
Prompt Value Note
boot device qefcc
(CX(i) II and MXe III)

Boot device is Network.
Note: The CX(i) II and MXe III
accept motfcc but automatically
convert it to qefcc on the next
system reboot.

other (o) FixPartition Used to partition a hard drive or
AX flash card that has no system
software on it.
Note: If the hard disk comes
without software, you must use
“FixPartition” to partition the hard
disk for the install.
Note: During the installation
process, the system automatically
changes this parameter to qefcc
(CX(i) II and MXe III) or motfcc (all
other controllers).
Time: The system takes approximately 30 minutes to format the hard drive

Have you tried the FixPartition method?

Hi kwb

Yes the option is set to FixPartition

You could try using the SW installer tool and doing a full install.

Uncheck everything except what you want to do (Load software, helpfiles)

The SW installer can't connect to the IP address of the system, I tried that first :)

Can't connect to IP yet you expect FTP to work.

Try this at the command prompt >vlan_off

Can you show exactly what you have for the boot info.

An apple a day keeps the doctor away. Anyone else and you need to throw it harder.

I've seen this with a buggered disc (or no disk at all...bought two controllers both of them supposed to be working but neither had a hard disc. I got my money back).

Just had this exact problem the other day.
It was an older system, replace HDD and it formatted and install software ok.

Try replacing the HDD.

Fixed it, kWB pointed me in the right direction but the command to turn VLANS off was cv at the command prompt.

It's now merrily downloading it's software from the FTP server.

So the system was starting, downloading Boot_Install from the FTP server then swapping itself over to VLAN 210 (in this case) and then not able to download anything else!
