3300 Browser Connection 3

I'm pretty sure this is a network issue, and if so I have no access to the network details. Here goes.

I get connected to the customer network and I am able to ping the 3300 controller however when I try to connect with Explorer it fails. I was connected to this controller a few months ago without any problem.

Here's where it gets interesting and leads me to network issues. This system has 18 controllers all working together. From this connection point I am able to log into a couple of the other controllers, specifically the master controller, but most I cannot get to.

Are there any common things on the controller that might cause this kind of behaviour? Is it more likely to be a network issue that's blocking me out?

That's awfully vague, but I'd look at your browser security settings. In particular, if the controllers you can connect to are assigned different security zones/settings from the ones you can't.
 
Yeah, I hated posting with this level of detail. I haven't specifically set any kind of security settings for any of these controllers. The part that makes me think it's network related is because I can ping the controller but can't reach it by browser. I figure I must be blocked or disallowed for some reason although their IT guy says that is not the case.
 
Well let's start by verifying what versions everything is, there may be a compatibility problem.
What is:
OS version of the PC?
version of IE?
Software version running on the 3300's?
 
Laptop is running Windows XP SP3 with IE 8. 3300 Controllers are running MCD 4.1 SP2, active software load 10.1.2.13.
 
Ok, so we don't have any compatibility problems either. What happens on the connections that fail? What error message, if any, comes up in Internet Explorer?
 
I just get generic page not found errors and sometimes I get forwarded to a search page that tries to find the IP address with no results. Although I just noticed it puts "0" in the search field and the IP address I'm looking for is "10.0.103.11". Not sure what that's all about.
 
That's odd. So somewhere between you entering the IP address and IE actually going anywhere, an extra 0 is being entered in the URL? Have you tried accessing these 3300's from a different PC?
 
Just tried on another PC and we got "Internet Explorer cannot display this webpage". It didn't forward onto a search page like mine but that's probably just a browser setting.

Earlier today the customers IT guy re-iterated that he thinks it's the controller and not his network. I think it took him 5 minutes to reach that conclusion.

PS: Thanks for your help on this. I know it's terribly exciting.

I'll probably wind up driving back out there next week and try it again.
 
Have you cleared the cache for Ie
and then Add all the Ip's to the trusted sites


If I never did anything I'd never done before , I'd never do anything.....
 
Just tried that with no change in the results.
 
I know you said you can ping the controller but are you sure the address you are pinging is actually the controller....?
 
sorry also meant to ask....what happens if you telnet to the same address?
 
The IP address is confirmed. I just tried a telnet connection and it goes directly to the login screen. However I get denied with an incorrect passowrd so I have to assume that telnet needs different credentials which I don't have. I tested that theory by connecting to a different controller on the network using both IE and telnet which resulted in IE getting logged in and telnet being denied using the same credentials.
 
At least by being able to telnet you've confirmed you're getting to the correct 3300. I guess it's possible that http/https traffic to the controller is being blocked somewhere along the way by an ACL or firewall, but I can't imagine why.
 
One way to prove that the web services are running is to disconnect the 3300 from the network, assign yourself a static IP address on the same subnet and see if you can browse to it, I know its not always possible depending on what enviroment the controller is deployed in

Also, using putty can you connect to port 2002 and login (use a raw session)? You will use the same username and password as connecting using IE, there are a few commands to restart and check the webservice......

ts WebServer - Stops the web server
tr WebServer - Starts the web server
i WebServer - Checks the web server status
 
Just tried port 2002 with putty and was denied. I could enter my username and then the password but then it just hung and didn't let me in.

I'll have to try disconnecting from the network next week when I'm out there.
 
Tried the Raw 2002 connection again today with the same results. I was able to get into a different controller with that method though.

I'm just going to give up until I head back out there in the next couple of days.

If you are struggling with the RAW connection through putty, can you not try connecting directly to the maintenance port on the controller and issues the commands stated by 'MrMitel' then try to browse again via the network
