Has anybody on here hit the 32 site limit? If so, what happened? Could I use SIP trunks and create dial plans for anything over 32 SCN sites? I am looking at a Server Edition/hybrid/distributed branch model with around 800 users at 39 sites.

Possibly, but most of the remote sites are serviced by DSL. Any sites over 5 users would require an IP500 with POTS lines for backup. Entire network in digital Nortel phones. 39 of the sites would require an IP500. My plan is to use SCN over the DSL to connect all together. But I'm going to hit my site limit.

You don't need sip trunks, just dont enable scn on the extra sites (they still need to be on a reachable network, i.e VPN), and work with dial plans. Advantages : if wan goes down phones still work with local telco lines, disadvantages: MORE expensive than IP/VPN phones.

Yaze.
Chaos, Panic and Disorder, my work here is done.

So then my limit is 32 "SCN sites", not 32 "sites"? Thats kind of what I was thinking. Once I max out at 32 on my SCN I would have to start creating site codes to dial and route to those remaining offices. Almost like using qSig on an old T-1 to connect site to site.

I am going to have a mix of IP phones, Nortel phones, analog devices, SIP trunks, PRI's and POTS lines. With Server Edition I will be using IP500's as TDM gateways for my digital, analog, PRI and POTS at the 5 main brick and morter sites. But each instance of an IP500 will use 1 SCN according to ATAC. I will deploy IP phones at the smaller branches with 1-3 users. I will need to deploy an IP500 with a combo card and 8 port Nortel card at the remaining 39 branches. I will use a POTS line at the 39 branches for outbound failover. I will utilize Mobile Twinning for inbound calling to the branches if WAN link is down. I am also going to use DID's on SIP trunks with FNE short codes in the core to allow mobile workers to pull dialtone with their iPhones using One-X Mobile Lite. So even not accounting for future growth I am right around 43 sites total.

The 32 sites limit is due to be increased but not until version 10 I believe.
You could create H323 trunks (not set to SCN) to link the other 7 systems but must use short codes to route the calls.

I also think that it will be increased to a higher number.
But nothing is sure until 10.0 GA is released :)

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

The official answer at the moment is "SM Lines", ie. IP Offices as branches to a central Avaya Aura and Session Manager at head office. Basically as many sites as you want (previously this was called the B5800 Branch Gateway). I haven't used it but apparently a lot of the programming for the branch extensions and users can now be done through SMGR.

Stuck in a never ending cycle of file copying.

Yes Aura branch deployment would work just fine as we have introduced both......but customer does not want the expense and maintenance costs. Plus they have over 700 legacy Nortel digital sets they want to use for the next 1-3 years.
