Hello Everyone,

Maybe a stupid question, but is there a command so I can see if the machine (AIX) is 32 or 64-bit??

Thanks in advance,
Rudy

Do you want to see if it is 64-bit capable or if it is running in 64-bit mode ?

Bill.

Rudy,

No such thing as a dumb question.
The command that I use to check to see if a machine is running 32 or 64 is:

#bootinfo -y

It should come back with a 32 or 64.
What Bill is saying is that different models have the 64 bit kernel capability and that is a little more complicated. Is the above command what you were looking for ?

Best regards,
Rob

Bill,

Here is a little more clarification on the hardware.

64-bit hardware:
All pSeries machines are 64-bit hardware (e.g. p690, p640, etc.).
The RS/6000 machines which are 64-bit hardware include:
7017-S70, S7A, S80
7025-H80, F80
7026-H70, H80, M80
7043-260, 270
7044-170, 270

Best regards,
Rob

Hello Everyone,

All thanks for the answers, We have here a P690 (Regatta) which is a 64-bits machine, but you can have a partition with 32- or 64-bits AIX installed, when I try the command bootinfo -y on a partition where 32-bits AIX is installed I get the following:

root@lpar02:/ # bootinfo -y
64

So basically, I think this isn't the command for what I'm looking for.

Greetings,
Rudy

Hello AIXQUEEN,

Thanks for your help, that was the right commando, is it a secret option? Because it's not in the man pages....

Greetings,
RUdy

Considered an undocumented for now.......maybe later mans will show it...

Is there a difference between "undocumented" and "secret". Other than spelling, they seem synonymous to me. Einstein47
