2 Line Cordless Phone use

I have a 2 Line cordless phone hooked up to 2 ATAs. Line 1 is set to appear & ring on the first ATA extension and Line 2 is set to appear & ring on the second ATA extension. I have the Prime Line for each ext to be the line assigned to their ATA.

It seems to be working well for me, but when the actual users work with it, they seem frustrated. They are used to a regular analog phone set up (no phone "system") where they could put the call on hold at one phone and pick it up on the other (whether it was a desk phone or a cordless - it all worked the same). They would like to put the call on hold at the 7316 set and pick it up by pressing the corresponding Line button on the cordless. Would making the lines be "public" solve this issue? Or do they just need to learn how to park the call and live with the changes?

Are there any programming options that I'm missing or that someone else has tried with success?

I would consider Call Parking the call, so when they hit the system dialtone from the ATA they could use the park code and grab the call. All about adapting to change... :)

Why not just give them a 7316 instead of 2 ATA's. All problems solved, unless you don't have any digital ports left, or don't have a digital set?????????????
2 ATA's is one expensive set.

It is a big vet clinic and they are extremely mobile. They are checking people in, taking animals to the back, doing scheduling... They are also resistant to "change"! The Dr. and I are trying to accomodate them the best we can (hence the cost of the 2 ATAs).

I'd never hooked up a 2-Line Cordless before and just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something obvious in the set up.

The T-7316's aren't cordless.

The T-7406 is a true, multi-line Norstar cordless set and they work fairly well under most circumstances but it would be an even more expensive alternative and unless you take really good care of them, they're a little on the fragile side for the average long term corporate application.

I've had a number of customers give up on them over the years just because ATA's are so dependable and generic cordless sets are a dime a dozen.

I probably shouldn't even mention the M-7410 but I'd be doin' ya wrong if I didn't tell you not to waste your time or your customers' money.

Teach 'em how to use what they have and it will probably make 'em happy for years.

Why not just assigtn both lines to both cordless phones with appear & ring? Seems like the simplest answer.

I think the complication there is being able to pick up "line 1" and know it's line 1 on hold, etc...

Most customers I've got with 7406's love them, and are usually pretty rugged, unless the end user carries them around by the antenna, or never charges it.

What's the word on the new t7406e's? I haven't fielded any since they've come out.

you really need to just get the users used to working with the systems features more if they do not want to upgrade their analog cordless to a t7406/t7406e. its been awhile since i have worked with this setup but you can place calls on hold by pressing flash 2 i believe i mean that analog set can do all the features of a digital you just have to flash/link * all your codes its a little more work that's all...good luck

They know how to place a call on hold on the system by pressing the Flash & 2 keys on the cordless. It's when a call is placed on hold on a digital set. The cordless user would like to press the corresponding line button to pick up the call on hold.

I'll work with them on Parking the call on the digital set so they can retrieve it off the cordless.

Thanks for all the suggestions and input!

Go to the T7406E. I just installed this at a customer site and the range is phenomenal.

Thank you. I did put in the T7406E and they love it. Worth the price to keep this office happy.

Thanks for everyone's input.

Ladies and Gents,
Not to beat a dead horse buttttt...
Norstar CICS 6.1
Cordless on ata port/ext 237
Call comes into system, ext 221 picks up, puts call "on hold"
Question:
Can the cordless grab this held call?
I've tested this on my test system and can't grab the call.
The only way I can "talk/flash" "2" (hold)(unhold) from the cordless, is when the incoming call is p/u originally from the cordless ext.....
I'm trying to avoid the park scenario.
I've told enduser to xfer the call the cordless ext for now, its a restaurant enviornment..any thoughts?

Get a Nortel Cordless

What doesn't kill you only makes you stronger.

Park is the only analog way to do it.

We take care of quite a few restaraunts, and they are usually pretty rough on phones. T7406E's are great, but analogs are CHEAP. Might be worth training them to park.
