Hi ya,

I wonder if you would be able to give me some advice.

1) does "ip office v3 r7.0 preferred" come with any VM licenses at all?

2) I think it comes with 4; if so, what is going wrong here?

This is regarding a system in my geek lab.
Bought on ebay to play with VM Pro

system = ip office r7.0
license = preferred / valid / no additional licenses

Currently set to "embedded"
No VM Pro server set.

system has been defaulted.

only one extention configured

Open system status, look under voicemail, and see if the voicemail says embedded or none. If it is none the voicemail isn't running which is why you are getting busy.

The truth is just an excuse for lack of imagination.

As mentioned it's a embedded.

In the call log I see it's an IPO500V2.

Try to pull and replace the SD card at the back of the unit.

the voicemail isn't running.

I also should mention that there are not cards in this box.

When you say there are no cards in the box do you mean no SD card? Cause that would certainly keep embedded voicemail from running...

The truth is just an excuse for lack of imagination.

There must be a SD card in the back. Otherwise the system is dong nothing.

Check the status of the card. Maybe it's full or switched off..

when I say cards I meant 'VCM 32' etc.

There is a card in sd slot0

I presuming something is wrong with the sd card.

It's not write protected (via the little switch).

Is it possible boot a system from the second sd slot?

Thanks again.

Nope cant boot from the secondary SD slot... that slot is all but useless imo.

You could try to reformat and recreate the SD card but you will need a R7.0 manager to do so along with a SD card reader.

The truth is just an excuse for lack of imagination.

You can check the state of the SD card in System Status.

VCM32 is only needed for IP trunks and/or IP phones

I would also check system status and see if there are any errors for voicemail full or voicemail nearly full. That could also keep the voicemail from starting.

The truth is just an excuse for lack of imagination.

This might be a silly question, but does the ext you are calling from have a VM box turned on? If it doesn't that would explain why the SC can't find it.

That doesn't matter.

Besides, Martin mentioned that no VM is present according to SSA.

The only two things I have ever seen that kills embedded is a full SD or a mailbox with 254+ messages. Defaulting the IPO doesn't ensure housekeeping will work with embedded. There could be a box with 254+ messages stuck in it. I would DTE in and debug. ivm-msg-del-all is the command to do a complete wipe of all messages. I have had a few systems I have had to do this with.

Thank you for that reply

I shall giventuwt a go

By R8.1 they fixed the 254+ killing embedded. I ran into that Friday. It actually says you can't leave a msg because the box is full. In R6 and R7 it was a problem.

Hi ya,

Thank you all for all you help.
You guys are awesome.
My unit is now working (so far).

I wasn’t very scientific in my troubleshooting in the end.
I tried deleting all voicemails… got an error for that; which I presume was something to do with either being in debug or not being in debug.
Then I decided the “shutting down card, removing card, rebooting etc” trick
Then I just started playing with commands on the console… I thought that there might be some corrupt config on either what I would call “nvram” or perhaps the SD card.
I also stuff in a few line cards that I managed to get hold off… and reset all the passwords…
After doing all that; it started working and I’m VERY PLEASED!!!

I am now interested in the interaction between the nvram (think avaya call it NAND) and the SD card.

I would be intersted in the process and what gets stored where and how it's used.

Looks like config is stored on the SD and copied to NAND on boot; along with possibly ip500v2.bin
