A client has around 75 5610 IP phones working on avaya ipo500 4.1.9. They are in need of additional 5 IP phones and the vendor supplied us with 1608-I IP phones as an replacement for 5610..Queries are:

1. Minimum software version (in case of an upgrade) required for the newly installed 1608-I IP phones to work.
2. Will the existing 5610 IP phones work with the upgraded software version (mentioned above)
3. How the parameters such as the HTTP server, file server & TFTP server in IPO 500 upgraded software should be pointed, for all the 80 phones to work?

cfg file is attached

A helpful reply needed ASAP

1 - 5.0.26 (the latest 5.0)
2 - Yes they will work
3 - You will need to use a http server for upgrading the phones but this is all covered in the help files.

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

Could you please elaborate to me which all phone files is needed to upload to MV_IPTel. In the above setup, both 1608 as well as 5610 has to work.Moreover please tell how to edit the MV_IPTel.ini file to do the necessary upgrade

The ini file is just setting up the port that should be used which is port 80
Then you need to define the path where the files are (i would use the installation path for manager)

When you have done this then you really do not need to know which files but i would just use all files for the 56xx range and the 16xx range.

This should be done by a reseller, we are not here to help customers to upgrade their system. We need to make a living as well.

A simple mind delivers great solutions

You mean the below:

TFTPDir=C:\Program Files\Avaya\MV_IPTel\data\TFTPdata

&

HTTPDir=C:\Program Files\Avaya\MV_IPTel\data\HTTPdata

should be changed to

TFTPDir=C:\Program Files\Avaya\IP Office\Manager

&

HTTPDir=C:\Program Files\Avaya\IP Office\Manager

All the files in the C:\Program Files\Avaya\IP Office\Manager will be upgraded to the necessary 5610 & 1608-I phones. The only thing i have to do inside AVAYA IPO500 is to change the HTTP server IP & TFTP server IP to the PC where MV_IPTel is installed (Manager PC itself).

IS the above details correct?

Moreover the vendor IT support as well as AVAYA is pressurizing to make me believe the fact that the 1608-I phones will work with 4.2.23.

In case if it works, if the newly ordered 1608-I phones are having a higher firmware version than the firmware 4.2.23 manager software comes with, will the phones automatically degrade to the firmware in the 4.2.23 manager?

@tlpeter

i know you have mentioned the incompatibility of 1608-I phones working in 4.x software in many thread before. But i am unable to convince Avaya or my vendor unless i prove it in the site physically. These guys are shitty.

No support from the vendor or Avaya..

Tell your scrappy vendor that the 1600i phones do not work on 4.2
When they do not know this then find a better vendor.
The knowledgebase even says 6.0+ but that is not true.
You need to run the latest 5.0 and you will be fine.

@tlpeter

please dont be angry with me dude..i am helpless as my company too is stubborn.

Could you tell me whether the above steps of changing the MV_IPTel ini file is correct and also the necessary ipo500 settings?

Go to Can you donwload it then it is ok.
Be sure that the phone get the new http and tftp server settings.
The phones will upgrade.
You could put it in statically if you are not sure how to do this.

@tlpeter

yeah..the 46xxsettings.txt was displayed on my browser after i gave the location of the HTTP data directory for downloads in the MV_IPTel.ini file pointing to the IP office manager folder ....

i hope that will work sure for the shitty 1608 phones too....let me see what my idiotic vendor is coming up with....terribly tired..

ty dude for the support [pipe]

Hey tlpeter...i have planned to go for a 5.0.26 upgrade for the 1608-I phones as well as 5610 IP phones to work. Still to confirm as i will not get any support from vendor....if this up-gradation is taking place

1. is there any need of licenses for upgrading from 4.1.9 to 5.0.26 ?
2. will it effect the voicemail pro 4.1.42 already installed in the site. Is it necessary that i change that to some 5.x.x version?
3. will it affect the SCN with another branch where IPO500 is still running on 4.1.9

Also what is the default firmware version for the newly purchased 1608-I phones before getting upgraded by the admin software?

1 - No
2 - Yes
3 - Yes

I have to agree with tlpeter if your vendor are incapable of even reading the Avaya documentation correctly then you need to change vendor

16XX handsets require V4.2 firmware
16XXi handsets were introduced with V6.0 (but support was added in a V5.0 maintenance release V5.0.20 IIRC)

Upgrading does not need a licence
VM pro should be upgraded to the V5.0 release
SCN connection will probably remain OK but both systems are now unsupported By Avaya

A Maintenance contract is essential, not a Luxury.
Do things on the cheap & it will cost you dear
