If an 1140e IP set is plugged into a POE switch and the set has an add on module, does the set still require external AC power for the add on module?

Thanks.

On the paper work that camas with Add on it states that the Add on uses the power from the phone and it does not require additional power.
Are you sure that you need extra power to back light the add on ??

Yes. It trying it both ways, the backlight would only come on once I connected external power to it.

I had the same experience... we use POE because the data switches are on UPS power.

We put on the KEM's and thought it looked hokey when just the phone was backlit - plus they are used in a dimly lit room (a 24 hour emergency dispatch center)... the dark background was a problem.

So we have to use external power which takes control when its plugged in. The problem is if its not plugged into an outlet that doesn't have backup power, the phone will reset to go back to POE power if they lose electricity... which messes with the agent log-in status and confuses them.

It defeats the whole purpose of using POE to mitigate outages in case of an electrical failure.

Our Nortel reps have basically told us that this is just how it is.... and doesn't sound like they are looking into it any further. :-(
