1120E on IP Office 3

My IP Office finally arrived, and I set it up with an Avaya support staff member.

Unfortunately, we were not able to get an 1120E working on the IP Office, he was more trained on the Avaya IP sets.

Anyone have a good step by step instructions on how to get it setup on IP Office?

On the Nortel BCM and E-Metrotel UCx, I was able to get IP phones working almost immediately without instructions.

I know there are a lot of tricks I don't know about IP Office yet, but I did read and follow all of the documentation, but I cannot get past the Login Screen on the 1120E set. It is running the latest SIP firmware.

Any help would be wonderful! Thank you! I look forward to learning more about IP Office!

Assuming you built a SIP extension, but did you uncheck 'force authorization' on that extension?

The domain will be the IP of the IPO. Username is the extension, password is the password you configured under telephony/supervisor settings.

Once you figure out the IPO and get comfortable with it you'll see how it can run circles around the BCM. Well, it can run circles when you're not using the Norvaya SIP phones anyways.

Hi Biv,
Thanks for the information. I am really looking forward to utilizing the IP Office to its full potential.

Ahhhh, I didn't uncheck 'force authorization'.

I notice there is a LAN1 and LAN2 input. What's the difference?

LAN1 comes up 192.168.42.1
LAN2 comes up 192.168.42.3
(not in front of the system now, so those may not be the exact IP addresses)

I am using LAN1 as my main gateway to attach IP Office to my existing DHCP Network.
Can I simply attach my 11xx SIP phones to my current Network and set their domain to that of LAN1 (IP Office)IP address?

Can you also explain the difference between the LAN input and the WAN input? I saw a video online where an IP Office technician used the WAN port for an IP phone. Should I be tapped into the WAN port for my IP Phones?

You can use either LAN port. Manager calls them LAN1 and LAN2, the back of the box says LAN and WAN. WAN is really LAN2.

Change the IP to something that works on your network, plug it in and fire away. If you have SIP trunk licenses you can probably get that connected to your BCM/UCX systems also.

Thanks Biv!

I was able to access the IP Office through my network using 192.168.42.1 even though my current network is setup as DHCP 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.254. How was I able to do that?

So in order to get the 11xx phones to work:

First set the S1 Domain on the 1120E phone to be 192.168.42.1
What about UDP and TCP? TCP 5060 only?

Then:

1-) Establish the LAN1 as 192.168.42.1
2-) Uncheck "Force Authorization"
3-) Set the Nortel SIP phone's domain to 192.168.42.1
4-) For ID on the Phone on the Login screen dial 2016
5-) Enter a Password such as 1120
6-) Then press Login in Twice

Biv,

I'd also like to get SIP trunking to a VOIP.MS provider up and running.

I have 3 simple pieces of Information from VOIP.MS:

Domain
Username
Password

It doesn't seem as easy on the IP Office, as the UCx where I simply need those 3 pieces of information to establish a SIP trunk.

Is there a fast an easy way to establish a SIP trunk on the IP Office? The documentation I was reading seems a bit overwhelming.

Thanks,

What release of software is your system on and do you have SIP trunk licenses?

I've never interfaced with voip.ms before. Best I can offer is add a new SIP line in Manager, then click Help. The docs are pretty thorough and should get you on your way. Worst case, build a SIP trunk between the BCM and IPO and tandem through the BCM to your SIP provider.

Hi Biv,

My software is 8.1 and I do have SIP trunk licenses.

It would be great to get through to my BCM and use the external dialing paths through there.

So do my instructions above for entering the Username and Password and Domain for the SIP phones look good to you?

Thanks,

These docs Link are a little old, but still relevant. It should help in setting up your 1140e phones.

Under my licenses, I only have Avaya IP endpoints. Will the Noravaya 11xx SIP phones runs off those licenses on 8.1?

I changed the settings to what we have above.

Results:

-Attempting Download reads on the display for about 30 seconds and nothing happens
-I log into the phone and I receive a "Logging in user.... (2016)" on the display and then the phone comes up with an "try next proxy" message

I unchecked and checked the "Force Authorization" as well.

Also, I am using a Static IP Address for these phones.

I also changed the IP address of the IP Office to an empty one my network and it won't change on the IP Office. I tried pinging the new IP Address and I receive no response.

Could the problem be that my DHCP network is in the 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.254 and my IP Office is 192.168.42.1?

Help! LOL :)

Alright!

I made some progress, I was able to get the phone to recognize the IP Office and upload the current firmware and profiles. BUT when I go to login into the phone I get a

"failed to login user"

Where am I going wrong? Is it because I don't have a 3rd party SIP phone license?

"Keep the Peace, Use RLS"

these phones need a Avaya IP endpoint license not a third party
make sure your password is correct and retype it into the user profile

Hey Joe W. Thank you for the response.

I have 4 Avaya IP endpoint licenses. So I am good there.

I've typed the password correct and retyped and no luck. Strange, I wonder if something is screwed up in my networking. I have the phone plugged right into the back of the IP Office Control WAN port though.

and you give out DHCP?

then it must be something with the SIP

just to recap
You have the SIP extension created
You have the IP address in the same range
You have the file server set to the IPO
You have the call server set to the IPO

You could try and use the User name as login name instead of the extension number (Name not Full Name)

Hi Joe,

You have the SIP extension created
---------------Yes extension 2016
You have the IP address in the same range
---------------IP address of WAN is 192.168.43.1 and the phone is at 192.168.43.4
You have the file server set to the IPO
--------------Where do I verify this? The phone rebooted and pulled up the store SIP configuration files
You have the call server set to the IPO
-------------Where do I verify this?

I am still learning, pardon my questions.

I just tried the Username but it didn't work, hmmmmmmmm

"Keep the Peace, Use RLS"

Question 3 and 4, you mean the file server setting on the phone? The provisioning server on the phone says 192.168.43.1 and the call server on the phone is set to 192.168.43.1, both the addresses of the WAN port on the IP Office.

I should mention, I've only had basic training on the system. The tech that helped me out wasn't experienced in the Nortel phones on IP Office. He also excelled in analog trunking, but not as much in SIP trunking. Where do I find the panel to enter the Domain, Username and Password of my SIP trunking provider? We ran out of time the other day and I cannot find the panel now.

You need to go under lines and add a sip trunk in there

The help tab will give you full details but everything is under there

You will need the lic for it to work
