Never mind .. I fixed it. I booted off of the Install CD and mounted
the /dev/dsk/c0d0s0 partition and deleted /etc/path_to_inst file and
copied the one created in the /tmp directory when th CD booted.
Something in the device names was screwed up from the different
IDE controller.
Hi .. I just upgraded my motherboard and cpu from a Tyan Titun
board with an AMD 233MHZ cpu to an ASUS A7V with a 900 MHZ Duron
cpu. Solaris 8 starts to boot ok but my first clue of a problem
was it went into the DCA screen instead of booting off of my first drive.
If I select the hard drive to...
If you pass those practice tests ok and understand everything pretty well...
you should be fine. I took the test last winter and I can't remember what
was on it. I signed a disclosure that I'm not supposed to discuss particulars
of what was on the test. I will say...it was easier than I thought...
Hi....I haven't seen many Solaris 8 practice sites. Have you been taking
the tests at www.solarisprep.com? I wouldn't think there is much difference
between the part 1 test of Solaris 7 and 8.
edit /etc/resolv.conf add...
nameserver <ip addr>
nameserver <ip.addr>
next make sure your hosts line in /etc/nsswitch.conf has dns in it. example:
hosts: files dns
that should do it.
Hi,
I just picked up a cheap 712 workstation and it worked fine...until I started
screwing with it. Now after it checks the root filesystem I get a few error
messages:
/sbin/rc[64] Syntax error at line 24: `'' is not matched
/sbin/rc1.d/K300acct[39] Syntax error at line 24: `'' is not matched...
Not sure what type of problem you're having. What disk are you refering
to? If your pc can boot off of the software #1 cd...use that, otherwise
use the dca boot diskette and install off of the software #1 cd.
Hi....I believe the easiest suggestion around the 2nd cd problem
is to type the full pathname to runInstaller program rather than
changing to the directory on the cd and running runInstaller.
Worked for me the 2nd time after I couldn't umount the cd.
