Hi,
I just picked up a cheap 712 workstation and it worked fine...until I started
screwing with it. Now after it checks the root filesystem I get a few error
messages:
/sbin/rc[64] Syntax error at line 24: `'' is not matched
/sbin/rc1.d/K300acct[39] Syntax error at line 24: `'' is not matched
followed by a couple more.
It will boot up to a command line login and when I check
/etc/rc.log there are more files with "Syntax error at line 24 : `'' is not matched"
One of the startup scripts is S112kminit and another is S320hostname.
Anyway...everytime after it boots my hostname is "unknown".
I'll probably bid on a 11.0 media set but I'm curious if there's a quick fix.
Thanks.

doesn't sound too bad -- have a look at the files it's complaining about (/sbin/rc and /sbin/rc1.d/K300acct) there are some unmatched quotes in there by the look of it. no need to do anything drastic like reinstall it just yet I think Mike

Email welcome if you're in a hurry or something -- but post in tek-tips as well please, and I will post my reply here as well.

Does somebody know why rlogin or telnet take about 35 seconds to log in using DNS ?

Hello:
Have you tried to set your hostname using set_parms and then reboot the system to see if there is some error in your configuration file try to see /sbin/rc.config.d/netconf and look for the hostname of your system.
