I think you're correct...most of my storage units are disk staging that have one of a couple tape-based storage units as final destination. Reviewing the tape-based storage units, I'm seeing that there could be overlap with the drives allocated to each.
What is the most flexible way to resolve...
Hi All,
I'm seeing something odd and I'm wondering what I'm missing.
NetBackup 5, MP6, 4 drive tape library.
There's a DSSU duplication running and it's using 2 of the drives. There's a manually-started policy waiting to run that remains queued even with 2 drives available.
Why might that...
it's not getting them into the pools that's really the issue. it's ejecting them once they are there.
unfortunately, constructing rules to manage this and having somebody monitor the usage and availability across our sites rather than just keeping the SCRATCH pool stocked is not something we...
Hello Folks,
We're looking to automate some tape ejections for DR/BCP offsiting and we don't currently have Vault.
We have various pools that tapes fall into (MondayOffsite, yearlyOffsite, etc.) and I'm trying to find a way to eject tapes based on particular volume pools so that a script pops...
Hello,
I've been experimenting with the Flashbackup-Windows policy type to speed up some backups but we do not have the advanced client installed.
The backups complete successfully and I'm able to see the image and the files backed up in the Backup and Restore interface but I'm unable to...
Hello All,
We have two netbackup systems at two different sites (2 master servers, one at each site).
For various reasons when we spun the systems up, we went with 2 master servers rather than master and media.
Now, however, there's a push to integrate them.
Is this workable? Or would one...
Thanks for all the help comtec17 and Bob.
This worked well. I'm still not sure why they were never purged out but I'm glad to be able to correct it.
Dan
Hi Bob,
Thanks very much...this clears up alot. FRAG 1 is the copy that is in the dssu (stuck) but FRAG 2 corresponds to a tape from the "offsite" pool that is now in offsite storage.
When I look at the images on that tape, some of them list the path of the dssu as their media ID. Is that...
I tried this and it looks like there already are copies of the image:
using: bpduplicate -backupid qwprhp01_1114135638
-dstunit offsiteStorageUnit -dp offsiteCopies
I received the messages:
Duplicate started Wed Aug 10 2005 08:54:30
Activity monitor job id = 42863
INF - Skipping backup id...
Thanks again. I know about the DSSU and purging based on need for space...I was just concerned as to what to do if they images remain "stuck" there even after duplicates are created.
I think I'm clear now on the proper course of action. Thanks very much for your help!
Dan
Thanks comtec17.
After I bpduplicate, will the original image get purged out of the dssu or will I have to manually expire it?
Also, I'm guessing I should make the duplicate the primary?
Dan
I have a policy that's set create two copies, one that stays onsite and one that goes off (using inline tape copy).
Unfortunately, the policy was somehow altered and the offsite copies for several runs never made it to tape and are instead stuck in a disk stage (the copy got pointed at a disk...
Hello All,
We're running NBU 5.0 (MP4/5) on Windows 2003 and I'm having an issue with a Novell client running Netware 5.1 SP6 (and eDir 8.7.1 10550.70) using the Target method.
We're moving some Novell backups from Backup Exec (administered by our Novell admin) to NetBackup (administered by...
Hello All,
If the original poster is still around: Was this issue ever resolved? And how?
I'm having the same issue. NBU 5.0, MP4 on Windows 2003. I'm trying to back up a network drive (mapped to a drive letter) off of the master server but the backup consistently fails with status 71...
Bob,
These articles were helpful but the problem ended up being with me...(I'm fairly unix unfamiliar and didn't realize what I was looking at :( ).
Thanks.
Hello All,
I'm using disk staging for some backups and they are not being written successfully to tape. Our server is Windows 2003, NBU 5.0 MP4 and the clients unix (solaris and linux) running 5.0,MP3 and MP4.
Here's a sample of what I'm seeing in the details of the job run...
Hello all,
I'm seeing something troubling on some of our unix backups:
A backup will run and complete successfully (no error messages) but, when attempting a restore, many files that were backed up have 0 bytes and are empty if actually restored (their timestamps appear to be correct however)...
I found an answer on how to expire disk images...I was thrown by the fact that the expdate examples I remember seeing all use media id rather than backupid.
I'm still wondering about the reports though :)
