if you had board with via chipset and sb live5.1 is probably your soundcard that causes the problem. Remove it and try again.

well me and 4 other guys i know with xp and via chips had now problems. The only familiar problem is the one with ths SB Live series. The SB live card it causes a data coruption at via kt133 & kt133A. I think is also happens nad with KT266 &266A. This can make xp hang.

This is a problem of ide bus driver. At the ide bus where cdrw is instaled xp use multi-word mode. Change it to pio mode and your cdr must works fine.
