I have the same problem but the servers are AIX with L80 and tape drives Seagate Lto Gen 1.. STK review all the hardware and it works fine.
IBM sais that thier HBA its fine.. then ... where is the problem.. i bealive that is some patch or misconfiguration in the SAN
Almost one year ago we installed a STK L40 library with Seagate LTO-1 drives attached to our Legato NetWorker server on Windows. Library and all tapedrives are attached to a SCSI Router crossroads and later to the SAN and to several storagenodes using SAN connections.

Well..
I have the same problem with a legato software and a L20 with 2 LTO Seagate Tape Drives. In the SAN have a windows, unix and AIX OS.
The problem its only present with the AIX OS v. 5.1, the others AIX OS have a different version a does not present this problem.
Support of Software IBM...
Hi..
this is a problem with the microcode of their library.. you have to make sure that are in the v 2.14.00.. you can see this in the operator panel in the L80.. in the screen that shows the state of the tape drives (the main screen)
Hi..
The firmware v. 1603 correct this issue.... but all your tapes have to be re-labeled if want to work fine... if you cannot to do this... the problem disapear gradualy with this new firmware of STK for SGT LTO GEn 1 tape drives
BUT..
This not only a WWN issue, you are changing the model of your tape drive, then you have you reconfigure the server, reboot the library (the library have to change thier configuration) and in your storage software you have to define the new drive model...
AND.. (CONTINUE..)
WHEN YOU HAVE FINISHED THE CONFIGURATION, EXIT TO THE MAIN MENU.. SHUT DOWN THE DRIVE.. CONNECT THE FC INTO THE FC PORT OF THE TAPE DRIVE AND THEN POWER ON IT.
....... AND YOU DON HAVE TO RECONFIGURE YOUR HBA, SW OR ANY IN YOUR SAN
YESSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OF COURSE!!!!!
You can change the WWN of your drive in the control panel of your L180 or L700.
This is a normal operation of the CSE of StorageTek.
First. You have to view the WWNN and WWNP of your drive (oldest)
Second. Disconnect the Fiber chanel and put the newest...
No more bla bla bla...
You have to clean a tape drive when look a decrease of your performance in the backups or restores.
LTO tape drives can work without frequently clean, but it´s necesary for your performance. And with clean enabled con can do this acroos the library menu.
THE END
Hi..
If only want to attach new tape drives with an FC interface into the library, the library can have an SCSI interface and works fine. You only have to review teh firmware version of your library that eneable the support for the newest tape drivers.
If you want that the library have a FC...
Hi..
if you are looking for performance, this is the table:
1st.- IBM
2nd.- SGT (Certance)
3th.- HP
If you are looking for cost $$$$$:
1st.- SGT (cheaper)
2nd.- HP
3th.- IBM $$$$$$
and.. if you are looking for durability:
1st.- IBM
2nd.- HP
3th.- SGT
and.. the tape drives with more...
The configuration of L20 does not affect the settings of the tape drives.
STK configure the tape drives that comes with your library, and sets the default configuration of the LTO tape drives. And this is "compression: enabled".
Then, the only reason can be the follow things:
1: the data that...
HI..
The are many fixed problems with LTO drives IBM, the main of all are that IBM LTO tape drive cannot save the index information correctly in the memory of the tape cartridge, this made your backup and recovery more slowly, because in this part of the cartridge have the index information of...
