Has anyone seen the library lose the tape drive type?

I have two Storagetek L80 libraries, both with HP LTO2 tape drives. One juke box has 4 drives, the other has 6. Each drive is on it's own scsi card/port (2 ports per card, one drive per port).

On one jukebox drive 1 was suddenly reported as an LTO1. We reloaded the microcode to fix this. A few weeks later the same jukebox showed drive 0 as LTO1. Reloaded the code.

Yesterday drive 1 on my other jukebox showed as LTO1. We powered off the drive, powered it back on, and the library showed it as an LTO2.

Hi..
this is a problem with the microcode of their library.. you have to make sure that are in the v 2.14.00.. you can see this in the operator panel in the L80.. in the screen that shows the state of the tape drives (the main screen)

The jukeboxes are currently at v 2.14.01.

We believe they were at this level when the problems occurred. The fix we used was to reload the tape drive microcode.

Although we haven't isolated the problem, we think it may be related to the opening of the main door to load/unload tapes while backups are running. Since this issue we no longer load tapes thru the main door, and track every time the door is opened. All tape loads are now thru the cap.
