I know this may sound over simple, but try unplugging the hub and plugging it back in. (The cable line that is.) We used to be on a cable line and this solved the problem.

I believe the only sure way you will get it to work in all versions NN is to create a transparent button with text the size of the table/cell.

The only safe cross-browser way to ensure table height is to use a transparent image to fill any voids.
