ftp access denied on file put

I am getting an access denied message when trying to ftp put a file from UNIX to a windows NT machine. This is probably because a file with the same name exists in the target windows directory. However, the file is there because I previously put it there with the same UNIX ftp put that I am...

How can I gzip only files not already gzipped

Why do I care? Justy so it runs a little cleaner. about 500 files in dir already zipped. I could suppress the message I supose, but it just seems nifty to be able to zip only the few that need it. Could go either way though.

How can I gzip only files not already gzipped

I'm looking for a way, that would let me gzip all the files in a given directory that are not already gzipped. These would be files with names not ending in .gz I suspect some type of loop with a grep, but I can't seem to come up with one.

There is a FAQ on this forum with an alternative method." Like I said in my original post, I tried all of those. The simple methods using the TZ will not work, and I was trying to stay away from a long sub-routine or seperate shell. I do have a C program I can use, though I was looking for...

TZ to calculate date not working

I have a script used for adding and subtracting days from current that uses TZ. It multiplys the days by 24 to get hours, adjusts for the time zone and the combines TZ with the date command. to add a day it does TZ=EDT-20 date. To subtract, TZ=EDT+28 date. A two day intercal would use 44 or...

Text not wraping to next line

Did the telnet test. The problem does not carry over to the next machine. This makes me believe that the problem has somthing to do with the session/environment on the machine, and not the connection software.

Using arrow keys to navigate in vi

I'm one of those that uses the up, dwn, lft, rt arrow keys on the keybord to navigate around in vi. This works in all my various connections (using Hummingbird Exceed to connect)because the use of the arrow key also acts like the escape key and breaks me out of the insert/append mode mode if I...

I have to read an input tape with multiple files - label 1, label 2, etc. Is there a way to do this in a single execution by altering the DCB and re-opening the file?

How do I move EFS from back end to front end

It is a recommendation from Opentext. Our EFS files are on the back end admin/database server. They are suggesting that we move them up to the front end web server. The index files will remain on the back end.

How do I move EFS from back end to front end

To improve performance, it has been suggested that I move the EFS file store from the back end server to the front end. How many things in livelink have to be changed to make this work? Are there multiple changes on the admin page, and are there any changes to the .ini file? Thanks

Can I FTP a directory to a mainframe?

Yes, mput did work. I first went on to the mainframe and allocated a PDS. I could then go on the UNIX machine, cd to the direcory with the files and then initiate the FTP to the mainframe. After connecting, i could do a cd command in FTP to the mainframe PDS. That got me into the PDS. I...
