i had the same problem! I took a look at the graphics chip on my mother board. There should be a manufacturers name plus product no. I know how your feeling! Open up your pc and have a look at your graphics card it should have its manufacturers name eg SIS etc and a number on it. Dial up not responding, modem disappears
Go to your control panel and try uninstalling your modem. Open your pc and remove the modem,reboot and then shut down again, then reinsert your modem and windows should detect the new modem/hardware.
