when using ftp the connection is made but then times out even though the information (login and password) is provided. what setting have i missed to trigger the remote server to respond?

I am using sco OpenServer 5.0.6. The manual makes it sound like configuring a usb port sets it up as a hard drive. Is there a usb flash drive that is combatible with unix or is this like asking if there is a floppy disk that is compatible with unix?
Has anyone used usb flash memory as a backup medium? In talking to Kingston (one of the manufactures) they informed me that they do not support unix but do support linux and thought that they may be sufficiently similar to work.

I have just loaded unix openserver 5.0.6 in a new box.
when I create the tape drive (sony sdt-5200 scsi tape drive) using mkdev tape it gives the "idmkreg: error updating space.c file for Stp" it then relinks the kernel etc. normally but when i try to use the tape drive it is not listed.

I am setting up a new unix open server 5.0.6 install on a new super micro p4sca mother board system with an embedded intel pro/100b network interface adapter. after install I get error messages. hwconfig -h gives

yes. the history is that i tried to move my old hard drive into a new upgraded box. ran into trouble with it and moved it back. had trouble with that and did a restore from an old back up to restore the / directory.
yes. now i get an error message "error incorrect SCO ISAM Runtime System installed:3" however by removing resolv.conf (actually doing a mv to resolv.conf.save) i am no longver getting the prc_sync error. It appears that all of these problems relate to the second nic card.
