Thanks for the perspective. I will try deleting and reinstalling, although it does seem to me that I certainly did that a couple times in the course of the attempted setup.
As we may all agree, XP has a habit of getting quirkier the longer it has been installed. That may be a factor as I...
Had a very difficult setup with the Brother HL-3070CW color wireless, but finally got all the confirmations that it was setup correctly.
Print jobs sent to the printer fail, then print two hours later.
This an XP machine sending print jobs directly to the printer via wireless. Had a Brother...
PDQ,
That is certainly a possibility (that the project was mis-managed). This effort has not been professionally project-managed to date. I suspect that the developer has some valid complaints concerning the direction he has received. The technical acumen and approach of the owners of the...
Hello, Tippers:
I'm being asked to help in a situation where a developer has apparently been working on an important project for a year and hasn't been able to get the product in a commercially usable form.
We've all been called upon to resurrect a software project, I'm sure. This question...
Hmm...appears to be a very similar question about OL2K7 re-downloading all emails right under my own question. Did not come up in my search.
I will see if there is anything I can do on the webmail side to prevent re-downloading, as seems to be suggested in that message.
I use RoundCube...
Hello, Tippers:
I recently re-rolled my home XPP machine, necessitating a reinstall of Outlook 2003.
When I had OL back up and running, its first send and receive saw it downloading 1.2GB of email, 99.5% of which would have been duplicates. I used a PST file when reinstalling which had all...
Ok, so I compared the PassMark results: the computer now turns in a 42% better disk score than it did before, and a 130 point better overall performance.
I am going to give a star to kjv for the new drive suggestion (although everyone in the thread deserves a star!)
Thanks everyone.

I can so take back props!! Ok, so here is the update. The tech came today and was pretty efficient. The drive indeed had XP pre-installed, and it had kind of a neat self-configuration script that got it most of the way home in terms of setup. They gave me a 160GB 5400RPM model that probably...
MS,
Thx-I run both ccleaner and alternately a suite called WinUtilities to keep the disks clean. Not only do temp files barely have a chance to get comfortable before they're scooped up, but the registry is vacuumed weekly. As for unwanted programs, I do have a lot of software, but I have...
Ok, so today was my day finally to deal with this problem. After thinking about everything on this page, I phoned Dell support. They acknowledged there was a faulty drive issue and are sending me another, and they will also rebuild XPP for me (they said they don't have pre-imaged drives with...
Ok, thanks for everyone's posts, which have been most helpful.
The following update may prove interesting. Per Jeff's suggestion, I downloaded the trial version of PassMark (which I would like to note gratefully is truly fully-functional, and not a hobbled version).
The score my machine...
Goomba,
Thanks--I had done that check somewhere along the way but was certainly worth another look. Device 0 (boot disk presumably) is in Current Disk Mode: UltraDMA Mode. Device 1 says "Not Applicable." Both are set to "DMA if available."
That looks ok.
Thanks again.

Tippers,
So it's a case of the doctor who couldn't cure himself: my own home office computer has what seems to be a very hosed-up install of XPP SP3. Computer is two years old, and over the past year the performance under Windows has slowed to a snail's crawl. The overall question is, do I...
Here are some possibly interesting developments.
1) I bought Office 2007. It did virtually nothing to fix the issues. OL2007 behaves exactly like OL2003. THAT was an expensive little adventure (over 100 Euros).
2) I bought a membership to a worldwide SMTP server. As you know, many ISPs...
Thanks for the responses. I believe I am in online mode since when I go to File, the option "Work Offline" is available (suggesting I am online).
It is a Pop3 setup. I can telnet out on the necessary ports, so I don't think that's it.
Tools, options, mail setup, hit send/receive...and can...
Tippers,
Outlook 2003 on Vista. Just moved over an installation with three accounts. Same installation works on the original computer--this is my travel machine and I am sitting in Europe with no Send/Receive!
All account settings tested out ok and are correctly configured.
What happens...
Hello,
So I have a background image--say it's a rectangle, and I'm making a postcard.
I want to center stuff against the background.
But I don't want the background to move--I want the other things to be centered against it.
If I lock the background, then I can't use it to center stuff at...
Joe,
Thanks for the thoughts. I will try DAF. I do use Ashampoo Winoptimizer regularly, so I will see if your program does anything different.
I am right up to date with Spybot.
