Hello,

So I have a background image--say it's a rectangle, and I'm making a postcard.

I want to center stuff against the background.

But I don't want the background to move--I want the other things to be centered against it.

If I lock the background, then I can't use it to center stuff at all.

Doesn't seem to make a difference if I choose the background image first or second, it seems always to move in concert with the foreground stuff I am trying to center. I want the background to stay where it is because it's carefully placed within my artboard.

How is this properly done?

Many thanks.

...you need to target lock the item you want to center to...

...this is achieved by selecting the objects with the black arrow tool (select tool), then click once on the object you want to target lock, nothing will appear to happen (unless you have CS4 whereby the object becomes highlighted), then select an alignment method...

...just to add to my post above, the proper real term is "key object", but i just call it target lock out of habit...

Thanks--sounds like CS4 has a big improvement over my CS3 in my regard.
