Hi GJB2011,
Thanks for the idea. It might just come in the nick of time. I was preparing myself to bite the bullet, and recreate the user account, which would be a real pain. I'll give your tip a go.
Yes, I agree public folders are just trouble!!!
Cheers

Hiya,
Anybody got any ideas on this one? I haven't come up with anything :(
My plan is to do a defrag on the public folders this weekend, and run isinteg. Something might come out from that.
Failing that, we'll be deleting/recreating the user account next monday.
Thanks in advance to any...
Hiya,
Hope somebody can help with this, which has me stumped.
We use Exchange2003 and Outllok 2003.
One of my users returned from holiday to discover he can no longer see one specific public folder. He doesn't get 'access denied' or anything like that, it simply isn't there in the list when he...
Hi kmcferrin,
Thanks for the reply which looks pretty authoritative and the definitive answer on this. Apologies for the tardiness, had a late start to the year, and trying to catch up since then.
Cheers

Answering my own post here! I could have found this out with 5 mins googling! Anyway, the quick answer is no. For failover, the servers need to be clustered, so need identical hardware, 2008R2 Enterprise licenses, and additonal NICs. Have to wait for next year for all of these then probably.
MS...
My work have let me spend some money on an HP MSA50 storage array, and a 2008R2 license, so I can install Hyper-V, and start to virtualise our servers (mostly 2003 standard, R1).
I specced the whole thing to keep costs down wherever possible. Now they say they have some more money, but I really...
Congrats on the cert, Sniffer. I let my CCNA lapse, and picking it up again is one of my New Year resolutions. Waiting for the Todd Lammle book to arrive from Amazon, and that will be my holiday reading.
Great feedback on the thread from the other people as well. This is a great site!
Hi kmcferrin,
Thanks for the tips. Still nothing definite here, but speaking to people I'm getting a fond feeling for Hyper-V and SCVMM. Hardware will probably be one of our HP DL360G5 boxes, and MSA50 storage array has been recommended, which will take up to 3TB.
I've been tasked with looking at virtualisation in our 2003 AD. I'm keen to use 2008R2, Hyper-V and SCVMM, to keep everything under the MS roof. I don't have control of the whole forest, so my part will remain as 2003 native. I saw a thread by GrimR...
Hi,
I have to do a server rebuild later this week. It has a P600 RAID controller, with 6 drives configured as a big RAID5 array. I'd like to change the RAID config, but there's a few things I'm not sure of. Main one is how many arrays can go a P600. I'd like to mirror the system drives, and put...
Sorted it! It was a group policy setting! I changed User Settings/Admin templates/Desktop/Active Desktop/ Enable Active Desktop from 'Enambled' to 'Not Configured', and it's done the trick, which I'm very happy about.
I redid the build, and achieved exactly the same results as the first time...
Thanks for the tips. It didn't fix my problem, but they were interesting anyway. I think I've doen something stupid somewhere. I'm thinking I mucked up the perms on the 'default user' profile. Anyway, I've got time to do the whole thing again from scratch, and I'll just have to do a better job...
I've got a Win2K3/AD domain. I've just built an image for a laptop, and am having problems. When I log into the laptop as an ordinary domain user, I get the message "Internet Explorer cannot find the Active Desktop HTML file. The file is needed for your active desktop. To turn off active...
Yes, very good point to archive the leavers from the old server and not the new one. Event viewer tells me I've got 20GB white space in the existing database already, and I reckon I've got about 50GB of leavers mailboxes in the store. If I archive them, and then move the live mailboxes, I think...
Thank you Pat and zbnet for the speedy replies.
Agreed, it wasn't one of my exchange career highlights! Probably the 2nd most embarrassing moment. Management isn't great in developing policies on leavers etc, so we have lots of mailboxes of ex-staff that managers won't let me delete, but...
We've had an exchange problem here, in that my D:\ drive, where I keep the Exchange databases is running out of disk space. It filled completely yesterday, and I've got it going agin by keeping transaction logs on a USB hard drive hanging out of the back of the Exchange box, which is a...
A bit more info I should have put when I posted the config.
The public IP we're using is a.b.c.101, and the PIX redirects this internally to 192.168.101.4
The exisitng sites on ports 20 and 21 are working OK (I get a username/password prompt, which looks good to me, and access attemots appear in...
Hi jfwebber, I'll try to. Public addresses are a.b.c.x It's very long as it hasn't been cleaned over lots of time! If I can't paste it here, I'll attach.

Thanks iolair for the confirmation. Unfortunately, the stupid thing still isn't working. I can ftp to the internal address fine, but from the outside, it just isn't happening. Nothing appears in the ftp logs, so it lookslike the PIX just isn't forwarding the ftp traffic. Looks like I need to do...
