we have seen heavy traffic degradation with anything more than 4 level...
heavy usage, but then, try to make something more like a star design, not a chain like that. you try to avoid that as much as possible.
and having one vlan...
the cable from the passport is a null modem...
you need a straight for the baystack ;)
you can however change the serial type on the passport (DCE-DTE so you wont have to use 2 cables ;)
you know those awefully expensive card nortel want to sell us for upgrading from the stock 100mps ethernet card to 1gbps-sx fiber?

we have tried setting the port speed at 100 mpbs full duplex in the nortel switch and in the macs too. no luck, still something wrong. but for now, we cant reproduce it anymore, and we havent changed anything at all...

ok first of all, i have a network with mixed in bps2000, baystack 460 and 6 passport8600.
we have performance problem coming from mac OSX machines at 100 mbps. when we lock the port at 10 mbps, it works ok - for a 10 mbps ;) -
if we take the same machine, crank it up with OS9, all is fine, in 10...
