Hi, long time since I last posted here but as I remember this was always the best source of info.
So here goes.
Were looking to replace NetVault backup at the place I currently work as it has been installed for over 2 years and still is not working properly, despite the best attempts of all...
If you are using Backup Exec 9 (Windows version), that uses SQL for it's database. IF there is an instance of SQL on the machine it is installed on, then it will use that, otherwise it will install the Desktop Edition of SQL.
The database name is the same as the NSE database, I can only assume...
Do bare in mind that Windows Server 2003 is not yet available, so unless you have 'contacts', you will be running a beta or customer preview program copy. As this is all considered beta code, there is no guarentee that DX9a, or any other media based program will work.
Do bare in mind as well...
Unless you are one of Microsofts premier partners or an OEM, you will not be able to get the full server 2003 code until the April 24th release, although you can place advanced orders, some of which may ship slightly earlier. These orders would have to be placed with Microsoft themselves.
If you are on the CPP program, select the support menu, then newsgroups. At the bottom of the newsgroup list there is the password for the 2003 newsgroups. As for them being made puplic, no news as yet.
I don't know if you have solved your problem or not, but there are usilities to view NTFS partitions from DOS, some commercial ones can also write to these partitions as well.
Try a search on google for NTFS2DOS, the company that does this used to offer a free download to view NTFS from boot...
Over at the Windows Server 2003 CPP newsgroup, a microsoft representative said it should be possible, but if anything went wrong you would be on your own.
As always with these things, a fresh install is recommended when moving from a beta to a full product.
Just to affirm: (From winxp.bink.nu)
Microsoft Corp. this Friday announced it has released Windows Server 2003 to manufacturing alongwith Windows XP 64-Bit Edition Version 2003 for Intel Itanium 2 processor. Even before the release of Windows Server 2003, people were curious and asking whether...
Actually, there will be a version for the Opteron/Hammer CPU's, just not in time for the launch, possibly late 2003 or before mid 2004. More info in the old news section at winxp.bink.nu
only thing I can think of now is to call a script from the schedule to open the command prompt and 'type' the command in as if you were typing it yourself. That should work, although I have not had time to try this myself, and I'll be aay from the computer for a while.
May be worth a try though.
Be aware that NAS devices do not alway present their installed Windows versions in the same way a normal server with Windows installed do. Look at

I have been evaluating BE 9.0 on a Windows 2000 pro machine, so Win XP Pro should not be a problem you can run in Win 2K compatability mode anyway if issues do occur, but as they share a common kernel base, there should be no problems.
BE 9.0 has support for Windows server 2003 anyway, so XP...
With ICS, the internet machine must have an IP of 192.168.0.1 with a subnet of 255.255.255.0
In Zonealarm 3.x, on the firewall page, click on advanced and click on 'this computer is an ICS/NAT gateway' and make sure the ip address is 192.168.0.1.
ZoneAlarm should pick up your network card and...
Have you tried a backup with a fresh, unused tape and had the same error coming up? On the odd occasion when I was a field service engineer, I have seen this happen with old or incorrect media being used.
It may be worth running a verify after backup to ensure the data on the tape is readable...
Hmm, tried that last night, using shutdown /h /f, didn't work, but after a bit of checking found out hibernation does not work when ras is enabled, bugger!
Will try again tonight with a scheduled reboot.
Rather than running it in a batchfile, have you tried running the command directly from the scheduler? Either as shutdown -s -f or c:\winnt\system32\shutdown.exe -s -f
The thing to remember with Exchange is that the security of exchange is directly tied to the SID (Security IDentifier) of the NT/2000 server it is installed on. If the databases are restored to another machine (ie a disaster recovery machine), because of the different SID, the security will not...
