I've been asked to locate a Sun C compiler for Solaris 2.6 x86. Having searched the Sun web site for the last hour or so I have only been able to locate compilers that support Solaris 7, 8 and 9.
Any help would me much appreciated.
Thanks :)
"man rpm" was my first stop before even going to the web. :)
From what I've read, the "verify" option is for use in verifying the installation of an rpm, not for validating that an .rpm file is not corrupted. My hope is that there is a command I can run that will compare...
Hi,
I've been searching the forum for about 20 minutes and can't find the info I seek.
I'd like to be able to validate the integrity of a .rpm file (i.e. to make sure that the .rpm file is not corrupt). I've got a set of CD-ROMs with a bunch of .rpm files on them and my manager wants me to...
Thanks Mike. Hadn't thought of that but the catch is that at times I do plug a cable into that NIC to get temporary access via that interface. I suppose I could write a script to down/unplumb and plumb/up the interface as needed (I prefer scripts for repetative typing tasks).
I was hoping to...
I've got 2 NIC cards in a Sun Ultra-5 running SPARC 2.8. Currently I only have one of the NIC cards cabled.
I get frequent messages in the console: "No response from ethernet network: Link down -- cable problem?".
I'm fully aware of the problem as it was my choice to unplug the...
Thanks for all the great info! I think I've got a handle on the "how" issues. Now I've got to decide on the backup scheme (rotation, dump levels, to incremental or not, etc).
The amount of data in a level 0 dump for the most important disk slice is only 5 Gig and a daily incremental...
The below script named newsyslog is what I use for log backups. It provides for creating archives of logs that you choose as well as proper creation of new empty logs (including correct permissions, ownership and signaling the syslogd daemon to start using the new log).
You will need to do...
DOH! Silly me for thinking mt eom would LEAVE the tape at the end of media (seemed obvious at the time). I'll try using /dev/rmt/0n instead of /dev/rmt/0 with that command.
crowe - So if it's "bad practice to put multiple ufsdumps from different times on the same tape" are you...
My examples above may not be "exactly" what I used so don't worry about which 'slice' is which at this point.
No, it's not a typo. I ran two seperate backups to the same tape. The first backup at 5PM was for slices 0, 2 and 4.
I then ejected the tape (which of course rewound...
Howdy,
I've read over a dozen threads here regarding tape backup/restore and have learned a lot.
I'd like to know how I can determine how much data is on a tape, or rather, how much free space is left on a tape.
Also, last night I created backups of 3 file systems:
ufsdump 0fu /dev/rmt/0n...
If you just want to change it on the fly then:
ifconfig hme0 unplumb
ifconfig hme0 plumb
ifconfig hme0 xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
ifconfig hme0 up
Substitute for hme0 in the above with the interface name used on your system.
Change your /etc/hosts file to make permanent change.
You probably already found this document but here ya go:

Once you have used the script to copy the contents of the CDs to your installation...
From my brief experience with Solaris Intel (6 months so far) I have learned that you best make sure the network card is supported by Solaris Intel:

I have found that the 3Com 3C509B NIC is recognized by Solaris no problem, anything newer from 3Com...
I was lucky enough to join a company that was almost a 100% UNIX based environment even though I mostly only had MS-Windows experience.
Nothin quite like being forced to use UNIX full time to learn things quickly :-)
I have found that Solaris SPARC and Solaris Intel (x86) are very similar and...
For immediate access you could:
man -M /usr/local/man _______
where _______ is the command of interest. But in the long run making the change to MANPATH is best.
I have a CD-RW drive installed on a SPARC machine and use cdrw to burn CD-Rs. Now I've got a new "IDE" CD-RW drive and need to install it in an Intel system running Solaris x86. However, cdrw does not exist for Solaris x86.
I see a program named cdrecord available for SPARC and...
