hi,
i've just had to start working with sun kit and have kinda been stuck from the very start.
i've been trying to do an install from the network but every little thing seems to work against me.
i can't do an install from the cd as there is no cdrom drive so have been looking at doing a network install (not jumpstart tho).
i'm in the middle of copying the CDs to a currently running E450 (darn slow cdrom!).
my main problem is what i'm supposed to do with the "client" machine which i'm going to install. i know that in the perfect world that the client should get an IP address and NFS/tftp info from a DHCP server but our DHCP server is old and doesn't support many of the settings that i need to supply. is there any way of typing in the settings manually at the "ok" prompt or sticking something on a floppy?
i've read the advanced installation instructions but it just seems to gloss over what happens to the client - the first thing it says for the client is to start editing things in /etc, and doesn't go thru the boot procedure.
also should i try going straight for the jumpstart setup or will i learn more by going through the whole process at least once.

thanks!
tom

You probably already found this document but here ya go:

Once you have used the script to copy the contents of the CDs to your installation server's hard disk you need to use the add_install_client command on the install server to identify the client system "to which" you want to install Solaris.

Part of this add_install_client command requires the MAC address of the NIC card installed in the client machine "to which" you will install Solaris. One way to get the MAC accress is to boot the system using the floppy diskette that comes in the OS installation set.

There is also a boot command at the OK prompt that forces it to boot from network which I don't recall at the moment (something like "boot - network"). I may have this command written down somewhere so let me know if you want it.
