I've got 2 NIC cards in a Sun Ultra-5 running SPARC 2.8. Currently I only have one of the NIC cards cabled.

I get frequent messages in the console: "No response from ethernet network: Link down -- cable problem?".

I'm fully aware of the problem as it was my choice to unplug the cable. Is there anyway for me to change the frequency of these messages? They currently appear every 30 seconds.

Use ifconfig <interface> down and ifconfig <interface> unplumb to disable the interface.

Thanks Mike. Hadn't thought of that but the catch is that at times I do plug a cable into that NIC to get temporary access via that interface. I suppose I could write a script to down/unplumb and plumb/up the interface as needed (I prefer scripts for repetative typing tasks).

I was hoping to simply minimize the frequency of the console messages. There must be a deamon or something that polls the interfaces and displays that message. I'll have to dig deeper :)
