    Where are MS updates stored?

I need to delete an update that MS automatically downloaded. It will not install, but it shows up in the taskbar as ready to install. Where does Microsoft Windows XP Pro put those updates that are waiting to be installed> Thanks.

    Slide show will not display

Ken, I tried the Detect and Repair, but it did not change anything. I finally tried reinstalling the photo software that came with the computer, and it cleared up the problem. I have no idea what actually happened, but since it is now working, I am leaving well enough alone. Thanks for the...

    Slide show will not display

I just set up a new Compaq laptop (XP Pro) with Office 2003. All of the programs work except Powerpoint when viewing a slide show. When I try to run a slide show, the show opens a button on the taskbar, but the show will not display on the screen. When I right click on the taskbar button...

How do I change the splash screen back to the default?

Running Windows ME. Somehow we managed to change the splash screen that appears upon startup. It is now a picture that was supposed to be the desktop background. I cannot find where that splash screen image is stored so I can change it back to the Windows default. Any ideas?

"View Workgroup Computers" is missing from Network Tasks

Using Windows XP Pro. When I click on My Network Places, the option to View Workgroup Computers does not show up in the list on the left under Network Tasks. Everything else seems to be there. I can search for other computers in the workgroup and then browse their shared folders, so I know...

    Wallpaper using jpg

Because I am in a school setting, I would like to prevent students from changing the desktop background. I have used the group policy setup to supposedly prevent this from happening. It works fine on JPEGS from the internet, but from within an application such as MSWORD, students can still...

    Can't get network to work

I got the answer from a consultant. The problem was with the IP configuration Node Type. On one computer it was Peer - Peer and that caused the problem. After removing that key from the registry and rebooting, the Node Type for that machine was "Unknown" and it worked fine. On the other...

Do both computers have to have all the same users with all the same passwords or just one common to both?

    Can't get network to work

I have two computers, both running XP Pro, networked using a Ethernet switch. Computer 2 (Lynn) uses computer 1's (Randall) internet connection (dialup) with no problem. Both are in the same workgroup (Haynes). When I "view workgroup computers" on Randall, I can see both computers, but when I...
