SIMPLE SOLUTION FOR MANY
Firstly, thanks for all your ideas.
Secondly, I hope I got your attention. For all those, like myself, who have been having problems trying to drag and drop on the desktop and for those whose desktop has been freezing up, I have found out a cause.

I spoke to Samsung Technical Advice. The guy was pretty helpful. Basically, he said that the DVD Writer is not really compatible with Imation discs. He advised me to buy TDK discs.
I managed to erase two of the five DVD-RWs using Nero. I don't know how, for some reason the process continued to the end without error. However, My Computer still gave an 'Incorrect Function' error when I tried to access the DVDs, although by looking at the DVDs it was possible to see that the...
I have recently bought a Samsung TS-552B DVD Writer. I bought some Imation DVD-RW discs to backup my PC before I did a clean-install of Windows. During the backup process I tried to erase some of the discs using Nero 6 Express that came with the DVD Writer. However, when trying to erase the...
Norton GoBack 4.0
I tried that link, but found it was only a demo version.
I have now installed Norton GoBack 4.0. The removable drive still shows up in My Computer when I connect my camera to the USB port. Norton GoBack causes no other problems either. So, all is looking good.
SOLUTION
I phoned up the Olympus Helpdesk. The only thing that was suggested which I had not done already was to check whether some new software my have been causing a conflict with the driver. I decided to clean-install anyway. I then installed software gradually, checking after each...
Tried that Hotfix, but unfortunately it did not help. I also tried re-installing Windows 2000 over the current 2000 installation, but during setup I was told that Windows was unable to re-install.
It looks like I may well have to do a clean install. This problem has happened before and I...
Thanks for the advice.
Actually, the documentation that came with the camera said that with Windows 2000, it is not necessary to install a separate driver as it is already present. And, the first few times that I plugged the camera into the USB, the device WAS working fine.
I have tried...
When I connect my digital camera up to my USB, the drive does not show up in My Computer. When I check Device Manager it shows a little yellow circle with a black exclamation mark, next to which is a the name of my camera and 'USB Device'. When I double-click on this, I am told that 'This...
OK
I'll try and make myself clearer.
I am using Windows 2000 Pro.
The reason for wanting to re-install windows is two-fold:
1.The fact that, for some unknown reason, the drivers for my camera (which I installed from the camera CD) aren't allowing me to download photos to the hard drive. If I...
It is actually the exact same CD from which I installed windows. Could it be possible that some important system files have become corrupt, meaning that the Windows Setup cannot recognise the system?
By the way, what does PID stand for?
The main problem is that I cannot re-install the drivers for my digital camera or memory stick. Well, they actually seem to install properly, but I am told (if I go to Device Manager) that the device is not working properly.
I checked Regional Settings, but how can I tell if I am "still using the right code page?"
Also, what should I check on the code page setting in the Languages option?
Setup cannot locate the windows installation you want to upgrade. Contact your system administrator."
Due to problems I've been having recently, I'd decided to re-install my windows 2000 pro. But when the system boots up I get the above message, and then have only one option, which is to abort...

A few weeks ago I did a Korean friend a favour by installing a converter which should convert a certain type of file into one readable in Microsoft Word. It worked fine. However, since then I have...
