Follow up: When I receive the error message my footer code is highlighted and the navbar is deleted. If I delete the footer code I can create the menu and the menu works fine. If then reinsert the footer code the menu still works fine. Strange but true. I have discovered a new problem...

Thanks Martin & all. I have just (in the last 10 minmutes) used Partition Magic to expand the C drive to encompass the unallocated portion. Worked like a charm so all is well. Mind you, it's still a Compaq but somethings cannot be changed.
