Yes, the retention "infinity" does not help in reducing the catalog size. we have about 700 official clients and our image directory is at about 80GB. We do backup a lot of stuff that's probably not necessary. However, we did find a few months ago that the catalog backup was not going through...
Has anyone ever seen this message after the installation process of the Authentication Service:
"Postinstall configuration failed[Errorcode:24587]. Retry configuration using vssconfig.exe"
I'm trying to bring up a 6.0 environment on my test boxes but this setup of VxSS is killing me.
anybody know if you can do a fresh install of 6 and recover 5.0 catlogs? i'm trying this right now but i'm thinking that i should've done the bprecover before i did the push data. i'm going to try this once the one i'm doing completes but i'm trying to make plans on how to best upgrade to 6 in...
i did the upgrade on our test boxes and the installation of NOM to the master killed device manager (pbx and other services ) from working. i read (don't remember where) that another user had the same experience and that NOM should definately be installed somewhere else other than the master...
Do you need to change the name of the Master? We migrated the master to new hardware some time ago. We just did our build, installed Netbackup, left services off and copied over the live install directory of Netbackup. The install wrote all the other stuff, registry, dll, etc. Believe it or...
we implemented veritas ene. it works when it works. how's that.
really though, it was something that veritas created years back and have pretty much stopped adding to it. it was a consulting engagement installation that we had purchased when we first got netbackup 3.4 but didn't have it...
hpuxrules, i'm actually having a vault/duplicate issue as well. but it's only one tape drive to another single tape drive. duplication will say it's successful but vault won't eject the copy?
good luck with the ndmp on the emc box. i had to do it a couple of months ago, and it was hard getting someone at veritas that worked with ndmp on the celerra. let us know how it goes.
i don't know if you can drill down deep with the permissions. for example, we wanted to allow a group to have access to view and configure only their policy with their servers. but we were told that this was not possible. permissions can only be given at "policies" and not down to individual...
we just had it installed a few weeks ago in a windows NB environment. our users are monitoring the backups using the java console. so far it's been ok, it does have slower loading times and i've had to restart services occasionally when adding clients. however, i wish it had better logging info.
we're trying to stay away from software encryption bc of the overhead and longer backup times. in addition, i think the licensing on that is about $500 per client
i don't think it watches what people do in the environment.
we just had it installed a couple of weeks ago. we did it because it allowed us to delegate certain tasks (ie. monitor jobs and vaults, restart failed jobs) to other groups without allowing them to alter policies, volume groups...
i'm surprised that not more people have been writing about it in this forum. maybe i'm looking in the wrong one.
But i'd like to know what kind of products you may be using for tape encryption. so far i've found neoscale, decru, kasten-chase. we're leaning towards appliance based that is...
there's this veritas tech note that gives instructions on how to kill the handles on the files so that you can unlock and delete them. you would use process explorer from sysinternals to search for vsp and kill whatever comes up. it's been successful for me so far.
does the path ever change before backups?
i had problems with one server where we were mounting and unmounting disks to a win server several hours before a backup. the disks would be there at the time of the backup but i guess were not, when NB goes and does its pre-scan of the client. i...
Our NB environment started with 3.4 and now we are up to 5.0 mp3. So our catalog was first created and still is in the ASCII format. Has anyone ever used cat_convert utility? Any problems, issues, things to look out for? Our catalog is quite large so i am very hesitant to do anything. I...
here's more info, try:
bplist -C clientname -R 999 -l -t 13 -nt_files -s 02/02/2005 E:\
i don't have a unix master/media but this works for me on a windows server. for non windows policies i have to add in the policy type option to show me the info.
