i'm surprised that not more people have been writing about it in this forum. maybe i'm looking in the wrong one.

But i'd like to know what kind of products you may be using for tape encryption. so far i've found neoscale, decru, kasten-chase. we're leaning towards appliance based that is installed right before the tape drives but there doesn't seem to be a lot of vendors out there right now who do this. any info/suggestions would be much appreciated.

I'm suprised also at the very small number of posts regarding this subject. I believe you will see the number of posts increase as SOX requirements come down the line presenting the need to encrypt certain types of financial and customer data being sent offsite.
I was doing some reading on the subject on the Veritas website and they also have the software based encryption but I believe using this option greatly reduces throughput? The info that I read looks like you have to install a security client software on each server that you would like to have the Veritas add-on encryption running on. I thought they had some encryption options without the add-on but I do not believe it is very strong 56bit.
Is anyone else out there currently using the Veritas encryption option? I would like to hear what your opinions are of the product.

we're trying to stay away from software encryption bc of the overhead and longer backup times. in addition, i think the licensing on that is about $500 per client
