i have done about everything suggested. i reinstalled xp and updated windows. my startup remains at about 4.5 minutes. it usually hangs in 2 places. the "detecting ide drivers" and the screen with the xp logo.
today, it hung so long at the xp logo that i had to restart. wasn't timing it but...
i have gone to via's site and viaarena.com also. i have downloaded the 4in1 driver that allows you to install all 4 in one shot. i have used version 443 and 451. both result in drivershq.com showing those drivers needing updated. that's why i question drivershq on this. i even tried the...
concerning drivershq.com. it showed me needing the s3 graphic driver that i somehow found and updated. and drivershq reflected that.
as far as my other 2 drivers that the doctor says i need. i go directly to the via.com site. and download the 4in1 file there. so i am pretty sure i am...
thought i would post this. i did download all 4 of those files but ended up just guessing to try the util one. it installed and i went to the good doctor and it shows that driver as being correct. i feel like a banty rooster right now. just kidding.
is this a fair question now. i have been...
i appreciate the help linney. if figure if you can't figure it out, i am up the creek. i guess i could try downloading all 4 of them and see what happens.
the screen went crazy. the box with the advanced setting finally came back up and with 60 hertz again. and right now there is some kind of install going on with a "reading package".
according to your link jamie, the refresh should be 75 hz. i am curious how it got at 60 with no other settings being recommended. but thanks very much.
unchecking leads to a warning that the setting cannot be displayed correctly and could cause hardware damage. the word that scares me is "cannot" not "may not". ??
i have a couple of questions maybe somebody can help me with. when i go to http://www.s3graphics.com/drivers.html, they offer basically two links to submit for the driver. one is an whql option(i looked at the link linney posted about whql) but don't know if i am to use a driver from that area...
may i ask what xp whql is? when i go to s3 graphics site, it is referenced. basically it looks like there are two url's to obtain the download. one for xp whql but not sure of what that is.
ty.
well, i downloaded what i thought was one driver that needed updating, according to the driver doctor. it was a 4in1 from VIA. when i rebooted, yes , new hardware identified. my display adapter now shows an s3 graphics prosavageDDR.
when i went back to the doctor, it still shows the same...
okay. when i go to display,settings, advanced,adapter:
adapter type shows nothing.
*chip type<unavailable>
*dac type<unavailable>
*memory size<unavailable>
*adapter string<unavailable>
*bios information<unavailable>
then clicking on properties:
general tab:
VgaSave
Device type : Non-plug and...
thanks for the driver detective. lol, it shows i need the same drivers i did months ago. now 3 of the 4, i can see in device manager. but nowhere can i find an s3 graphics prosavageDDR. as i said earlier, display, settings, advanced, adapter shows nothing of s3 graphics prosavageDDR. i'd sure...
