I removed the webcam and this morning, when the repair sequence came up on bootup, it seems to have worked. If the problem repeats itself, I'll uninstall AVG and install another antivirus program to see if that clears things up.
Answers:
* Yes, I do have AVG antivirus running on this computer
* Yes, I have a Logitech webcam attached to the computer. I'll unplug it and run the repair program.
Things are also getting worse: I had to reboot 3-4 times this morning before succeeding to bring up Win 7.
Lately, on boot up my PC starts up then shuts down. On second try, a DOS screen recommends I "Launch start-up Repair" sequence. Last time I toggled "OK" to the program's finding a Restore Point and Win 7 launched apparently normally. This morning the screen informed me it could not repair the...
Lately, each time I boot up in the morning, it starts to load up, then shuts down. When I restart the boot, I get a Windows Error Recovery Window that says "Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change may be the cause." Left alone, a "Startup Repair" sequence begins. It...
Sorry for the delay in responding. It was not a BOD but simply a Windows error message. On subsequent reboots, that error message seems to have gone away by itself. So, I think I'm going to follow the advice in your tag line: "If it works, don't fix it!" Thanks very much for your expert...
For some reason, my Yahoo Mail notifier keeps appearing showing the number "9". Sometimes there are some new emails, sometimes there are none. But the main thing is, there doesn't seem to be any logical connection to how many new emails are in my mailbox. When I delete all new emails, the...
On booting up I am receiving the error message "Unable to initialize Page". Googling that error message has not led me to a way to eliminate it. Suggestions?
I would like to remove Skype from the start up programs, since I only use it occasionally. For some reason, when I uncheck the box that says "Have Skype start up with Windows," it has no effect. I know there is a command you can put into the Windows "Search program" line that brings up the...
I recently upgraded to Windows 7, Small Business Edition. In my daily Spam Report, I'm seeing several emails that the Outlook spam filter has identified as spam, but they're not. Their headers only are shown, and in text only with no content. When I go to my "Junk eMail" folder, there's...
I recently upgraded to Windows 7. When it boots up, I would like to find a way for it to skip the stage where Windows Boot Manager makes you manually select that it open in 7 or Vista. I'd like it to just automatically open in 7. I suppose I would like to be able to open in Vista in case a...
I think I've seen this kind of "deal" before and thought it fell into the category of "If it sounds too good to be true...." I was just curious about what the double-talk meant.
After doing a search on Shopzilla.com for the best price on Microsoft 7 Ultimate upgrade, they came up with a price of $79.99 from an outfit called NowBiz88. [http://www.shoppalstores.com/thorvat1/index.cfm/fa/items.main/parentcat/29782/subcatid/0/id/423730] Their blurb reads that what they're...
Did the new PC come with any Office programs (trials) pre-installed?" No. I used a CD I used to install Office on my previous PC, and I don't really remember where that came from.
I recently bought a new PC running Vista. I installed MS/Office from a CD I used on my previous PC, which ran on XP/home. Now, whenever I launch Word (and I presume Excel, etc.), I get the nag screen that says "This is not a genuine version of Word". I've Googled for fixes, but they seem to...
