I am well aware of how a "real" router works and how to setup one. However this setup did work before. The old admin left after tearing down the room and before it could be setup again. The problem I am having is the client does not want to spend any money. I know $100, at most, is not much but...
I have been given the task of bringing backup a moved network. The network is fairly simple. It has a DSL line connected to a NT4.0 server box that has 2 network cards. One card connects to the DSL line and the other to a hub where all the other machines are. The NT4.0 router has an outside...
Thanks for the help. I was able to get Exchange running. I did not realize that the virus scanner was scanning the exchange files, one of the many things I am working on fixing since taking over recently. I will read the link you provided. Another quick question, are the pub and priv databases...
My exchange 5.5 server got a virus in a log file and the log file was put in quarentine. The server stopped and now the DB and log files are out of sync. I removed the virus but I am having a hard time getting the Information store backup because the database is damaged. I have a backup but...
We are running a Exchange 5.5 server for email. Recently we have been bombarded with email that is undeliverable. An email address was comprimised ( from a web page scan, I think ) and we are now getting 200-300 undeliverable emails a day from this address with about 50 different address in the...
Well its gone now, yea! I shutdown dns on problem server, and also messed around with browser issues. rebooted a few times and now its gone. I dont really know what did it, I guess I could start dns backup to see if it was that or a browser issue, anyway I am going to let it sit for the weekend...
Sorry I have been out had to fill in at a client site. Anyway, I have not checked the fismo roles, what is that? How do you check?
I have been trying to clear off the exchange server, but since everything was setup before I got here I am going slow so not to destroy anything.
I will shut down...
Hmmmm Strange. The email server points to itself and is not getting this message. The file server gets the message when it points to itself and when it points to the email server. I rebooted the server, restarted the netlogon service. No change. I get an error file could not be found message...
Both servers now point to themselves for DNS and the other one for secondary DNS. After making the change to the DNS on the file server the errors continue. Event ID 1000 is attached to a bunch of problems and the link from vbrocks does not describe the problem I am having. I have tried in vain...
I think DNS is setup correctly, but here it is to be sure.
Exchange server
IP 192.168.168.70
mask 255.255.255.0
gateway 192.168.168.65
DNS 192.168.168.70
WINS 192.168.168.70
forwarders are setup correctly and all outbound works fine.
Server is running: Exchange...
I have a WIN2000 file server and a WIN2000 exchange 5.5 server. The exchange server is running WINS, DHCP, DNS, and exchange. The file server is running WINS, DNS as a backup. The exchange server is the primary on everything, I know not a good idea, but that is what I was presented with when I...
We have a small network using 192.168.x.x IP addresses behind a Cisco PIX firewall. We will be using the Cisco VPN client to connect into our network. I wanted to know if sharing folders on users desktop machines at work will pose any problems outside the office? I understand any shared folders...
Recently I noticed that my event viewer is empty for all the logs. I have no idea how it got stopped or how to start it back up. ANy help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you all very much. Yes the firewall is between the internet and the exchange server. Not between the server and the users. Thanks again everyone.

I have Exchange 5.5 with only internet mail in addition to exchange, ie. no notes, ccmail, etc. Which ports do I need to have open on my router/firewall? Do I just need port 25 (SMTP) and port 110 (pop3)? Any help would be appreciated.

It interesting you say that. I have a home HP machine that will only accept the factory WIN ME. Not 2000 not XP only ME. I eventually used that as an excuse to buy a Dell so it worked out ok. Anyway, we were able to load XP and convince my boss that it was a compatibility issue. Thanks for all...
The workstation CD is fine, it has run on other machines in the past week or so with no problems. As a side note, the HP website does not address 2000 at all in their help section, unless I missed something.
