I have a Hp pavilion 750n machine that I am trying to load Win2000 on and having no luck. The machine came with XP home and I am reloading WIN2000. The load goes fine until it gets to formatting the drive, it stops at 13% every time and just hangs. I was able to load Win2000 server with no problems, but we need it to run WIN2000, due to company policy. Does anyone have any idea why it would always hang at 13% when formatting the HD? Any help would be appreciated.

That does sound quite odd. If it was a hardware problem then the Server CD would have problems too. Could there be anything wrong with your Workstation CD? Do you have another one you could try?

The workstation CD is fine, it has run on other machines in the past week or so with no problems. As a side note, the HP website does not address 2000 at all in their help section, unless I missed something.

I personally have never liked the Pavilions, and HP support is an expensive joke. All that aside, I checked Microsoft's Hardware Compatibility List for Windows 2000 and the Pavilion 750 wasn't listed. Maybe there's something inherently weird about that model?

Can you maybe format the partitions some other way, then try installing Professional?

It interesting you say that. I have a home HP machine that will only accept the factory WIN ME. Not 2000 not XP only ME. I eventually used that as an excuse to buy a Dell so it worked out ok. Anyway, we were able to load XP and convince my boss that it was a compatibility issue. Thanks for all your help verifiying what I kinda suspected.
