Well, I have a few questions: 1) Is the network wireless or cabled? I think I know the answer, but just making sure. 2) Is there a firewall on the cable modem +/or any routers or servers along the network? 3) What processes do you have running?

I really do think that the floppy drive itself is bad. It doesn't sound like the read/write heads are moving, which would explain why sectors can't be found. To replace a floppy from the inside is fairly easy. Just remember which cables you unplug, and put them back in the new floppy exactly...

Sounds like a driver issue or an IRQ conflict to me. Are the USB ports on board or did you put in a card? What does it say when you look at the properties, in that box that normally says "This device is working properly"?
